Resin Zoanthrope bending in the heat.

Hello.

As the title says my zoanthropes have bended in the heat of the summer. Does anyone have any idea of how to "rebend" them into shape?

P.S. I hate rasin.

Submerging them in hot (not quite boiling) water for 30 seconds has done the job for me with forgeworld resin, but I'm not sure about finecast.

Also, if your models are already painted I don't know how it would affect the paint..

nearly boiling water for about 5 seconds usually does the trick. Usually resin will return to it's intended shape on it's own when warmed, but you have to lay it out in such a way that it won't bend incorrectly.

Once you've bent it back into shape you should probably try storing it differently. Maybe try lying it sideways on something soft that will support the model in a way that no stress is applied to the narrow part meeting the base. Basically so the model is cushioned across as much surface area as possible. That sounds quite confusing

Where are you that the weather is that hot? Was the model in direct sunlight?

In any case, resin is (please do not swear). I don't get why they couldn't just make models with plastic since resin stuff comes on sprues anyway. I was assembling a pyrovore (to use as a biovore) last night and a bubble has completely erased one of the teeth. I hope the other two are alright, but I'm not holding my breath since both of my zoanthropes had problems too.

Well... I live in Denmark but they where out on my balcony in direct sunlight so the misshape are my fault but not I know how to fix it and how not to store rasin (the otehr plastic figures doesn't seem to be affected by the sunlight)

I don't agree with all the Finecast moaning, our Finecast figures are about as flawed as the metal ones.

Or that's what I thought until our Doom developed this wistful, thoughtful look, bending his head to one side, after he'd sat on the back parcel shelf of our car, inside a box. And this was before the UK weather really warmed up.

I have gotten far more miscasts in finecast than metal. It is easier to work with but the number of miscasts is quite notable.

I'm generally in the habit of watching ebay for the metal versions of the finecast models I want. I'm sick of having to gap fill, fix part of the model, and deal with the slouching zoanthropes.

I don't have a lot of finecast experience to go on but every model has had issues so far, while I don't remember having problems with metal (well, I remember having to bend a few axe heads back into alignment but that sort of thing was nothing and could be pushed back into place instantly)

Every single finecast model I've purchased has been so warped out of the bag that I've had to call in for replacements. At lesat GW is good about replacing them!

Well, as I said, that was my previous opinion.

My finecast zoey was better than the metal one in terms of cleaning it up, and I had real problems attaching the small vents on the metal. Finecast Hive Guard were average... no holes, but three of six had gaps in their tails and one has a miscast spike on the gun (fortunately, identical to the spikes you get wiht warriors); finecast broodlord is as good as the metal one and didn't need pinning - also I could simply glue it onto a slate base, which would have probably not been possible with metal.

So i had no issue with Finecast in general up to now. but a zoey that I've customised heavily but then starts bending is a real issue. Don't really fancy sticking a painted model in boiling water, and the fact that being left in a car in May was enough to warp it is worrying.

I've had to do that with finecast like 20 times now being in insane TX heat. I recommend doing it from the sink to make things easy. Get the water as hot as it will go, put the piece in the water for a minute or so, then pull the piece straight again. Then flip on the cold water while holding it straight and put it under the cold water. It sets back in place till the next exposure to extreme heat. Also, the nice part about finecast is once it's at or close to boiling it returns roughly to it's original cast shape. I know because I have a finecast hive tyrant that had a bent sword out of the box. If I heat it up it returns to being bent so I have to do that trick every now and then

Use a hair dryer if water isn't possible. Preferably with a fine nozzle if you want to direct the heat. About 10-15 seconds exposure maximum at low heat, test for bendiness.
