Allies - Come the Apocalypse and not before!

Allies matrix says Tyranids can have allies of the type,

Come the Apocalypse and not before.

Once Apocalypse is released, will we then be able to have allies?

Is it a sneaky hint that GW was thinking ahead to after July 2013. Perhaps an allies supplement or mini codex?

While it is possible, I find it highly improbable. I think they used that phrasing to be more along the lines of the idea that such pairings would only occur when things were so amazingly grim and dire that even then it is a bad idea. Plus since apocalypse throws out a few rules anyway from what I've heard, they figured why not toss out the chart at that point too and let you just have fun with it.

I think cibissum is right, it's more of a reference to the fact tyranids wouldn't ally with anyone, except in apocolypse games, where the whole concept of allies, and a whole mess of other rules, are ignored. No conspiracy theory at all.

I'm disappointed and it's going to be a long time waiting for new Codex Tyranids release.

Since GW has recently revisted genestealer cults,
it would have been appropriate timing following on from Vidar's Fate campaign.

I thought that "come the apocalypse" was a reference to the expansion, as I was under the impression that in apoc, pretty much anything goes.

I dont like the idea of Tyranids being able to ally with another. We just need a codex that supports that.

As much as part of me would love to be able to play a combination of my Tyranids and my secondary army (Raven Guard) it just wouldn't feel right from a fluff perspective, so I'm OK with us having no allies in regular games.

I think as a balancing act though we should maybe get some rules to offset the lack of any allies when playing against someone that brings them.

Either:
(a.) Straight-up FOC expansions (one extra Fast, Heavy and Elite slot)
(b.) Something along the lines of Reinforcements/Without Number (certain swarm-type units get to come on 'again' from the table edge when destroyed)
(c.) Maybe different deployment types (imagine variations on Dormant granted to Non-Ymgarl units, or being able to bring certain units on from your foe's home table edge, etc.)

Perhaps we will get something along these lines next Codex.

There used to be a rule in I think it was 4th edition like what you mentioned in part B. I think it was called unending swarm or relentless swarm, something like that I can't remember.

This is not a wish listing thread. However I just cannot believe GW doesn't have something planned for Tyranids; compensating for missing allies. Surely when they were developing the allies table, there was an employee who pointed out how unfair it was to make an exception of Tyranids players. There would have been an argument about Hive Fleets fluff moving towards that of it being a single minded steamroller. In my view, it's an unsubtle idea, which my lead to tyranids further being further excluded from future 40k plot lines. Eventually they become just a bunch of nice models and an army list. Other allies on the table,like Imperium and Necrons, have dubious origin, but I think the intention to help army list diversity is a noble attempt to despite it's disrespect to the background.The allies matrix does not take into account the rich background of genestealer cults. Developers should be focusing on the genestealer hybrid life cycle and other infiltration units. For example, is Deathleaper just a random sniper, or does it study it's prey. Using it's knowledge of enemy behavior, can Deathleaper manipulate circumstance to make battle brothers suspect each other of dishonour. Even to the point of parania and attacking each other. Is the creation of each Deathleaper
taylored to the victim or are they produced using a cookie cutter. Another example, are Zoats. Documentation would suggest they can be very persuasive and empathic with other races. Could the Hive Mind have enough sense to see, it might be worth preserving some species or civilisations, because they can help them achieve longer term goals, with bigger rewards.

I'm banking on an army rule in the new codex that allows us to take an allied detachment from the same codex as our primary. This would greatly expand our foc options and make up the difference with little more than a sentence.

Expanded FOC would just give us more of the same. I want to collect more variety of models, with great potential for coversion. Like a looted vehicle that counts as pimped up patriarch limosine. I also want tyranid fluff to be a more insidious psychological threat to other races, so genestealer infilitration become a major plot device in 40k.
Now, I am just wish listing. Give us a hint GW; why so unbalanced an allies matrix, then take so long to offer recompense?

I don't know if we WILL get such a thing, but I can hope. It would be nice.
