I imagine the way to use the Sky Shield is to push it out of your deployment area, and against the mid line.

That way you can use it to control the center of the board. Sure devourers are only 18", but with the 6" move that lets you cover an area 4' wide, and 6" away from their board edge. Sure they can bunch up and hide in the corners, but it is often hard to win games that way.

He has? I skimmed MVB's blog, doesn't look like he has mentioned them since mid-october.

He specifically thinks that FLyrants are overcosted and a bad idea.

I will give you overcosted, but not by as much as a lot of our codex. They are extremely effective.

I personally won a local tournament two weekends ago with neither a flyrant or tervigon in my list.
I used:
Hive tyrant with devs, and armoured shell
tyrant guard x2
Hive guard x3
Zoanthropes x3 with a spore
Doom with a spore
Warriors x3 with barbed strangler
Devilgants x10 in a spore
deivlgants x10 in a spore
Biovore x2

There were times were I wished I had the mobility or spawning more troops, but I still tabled all of my opponents (2 tau players and dark eldar raider spam). To be fair, my local meta generally sucks at dealing with a spore heavy army. More often than not my spores end up behind the tanks and the spores wreck/explode them since they tend to move up the field. They aren't so easy to beat that I can field our mediocre units and do anything, but t4 does pretty well here since my MCs take all of the S8+ shots till they die.

I hate podcasts, can you give us the brief version of why he thinks they are a bad idea? Because, they aren't.

Haven't heard him go into much detail about why....

Grounding tests; the fact that a markerlight hit has a 33% chance of giving it a wound. Any hit can give it a wound. Expensive. Couple of enfeeble and a grounding test = ID.

Not saying I agree with him, I am currently running a flyrant. But am also developing a list that doesn't use one. I don't think they are a must have...

My point was that looking at top players and their lists.... there is a lot of variety.

I wouldn't say the Flyrant is a must have, but I do think it's our best HQ option. It depends a lot of the army list as a whole, you need to tailor your HQ to fit what you want to do, as always. Really good players can compete with less effective units, but that doesn't mean all units are all equally good.
Couple of Enfeeble feels like reaching a bit. It would be a rare situation.

Funny, I heard a bat report of the same game from one of his opponents (Blackmoor at BAO) Now I need to go check it out again and compare their perspectives.

JY ask for his thought before the game and he responds "Here are my thoughts going into our game:

I can’t believe that Lyzz hit on 5 out of 6 deepstrikes (is she scattered she would mishap)

he is still bitter about the previous game but in competitive situation people use this "my mind wasnt on the game" all the time and its a cop-out excuse to rationalize the lose.

late he says "I do not want to take anything away from JY2's win, but I was still thinking more about my last game than this game. I bunched up my units when he has biovores, and it did not help in turn #2 when I failed about 8 out of 10 saves from them. Also I did not cast Warp Quake which would slow down the Doom." validating the previously setup excuse

then his first post on page 9 of the thread (although by itself doesnt seem bad when added to the above post) he is just ifs/wouldve/couldve to justify his lose instead of acknowleging his mistakes and the good smart play of JY.

it just makes it seem like he isnt used to losing in general and even more so to bugs.

when in reality if you read their other batrep www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/505250.page JY should really be 2-0 against him, he lost the other game because he forgot to make his movement with his gants. although an extra round JY wouldve have lost.

i would bet you cant beat a DE with eldar list thats brought to fight nids or a GK catered to fighting nids. you just dont see these in tournys because they arent all comers list.
