Ok, we've got problems.
Just played 2 games against a Tau-Dar list (Tau with Eldrad ally) and it was horrible. First he had 3 Skyrays. With skyfire, 6 missiles each and their own markerlights, these are the death of flyers: marker lights strip away your jink save, and your Tyrants get hit with 6 str8 ap3 missiles at BS4 to 6 with no cover save. Eldrad's runes prevented me from casting psychic powers, so no FNP or Iron Arm either. Results: 2 dead flyrants on turn one. No grounding tests needed, they were dead before hitting the ground! Marker lights + Eldrad was disgusting: I had no cover, no FNP. Eldrad was casting Fortune and Prescience at will to boost the Tau shooting even more. The few units that made it in charge range were cut down by the multiple overwatch (I soooo hate that rule! So you can't outshoot them, but you can't charge them either
).
Granted it was against one of the best players in the state (and these were good games, I picked up a lot and knew what I was signing for before playing him
), but it's not looking good for Nids. Just when we were starting to claw our way back
I agree we will have to tailor.
I don't think Biovores would have helped: the Tau player had no issues getting cover and going to ground. If you have FMCs it makes no difference, his guys snapshot anyway, and he can always increase his BS beyond 1 with Pathfinders. The only thing I can think of are Skyshields (I think these will be popular now with all the Ignoring Cover stuff in the game), and a TFex with Acid Spray to take out Firewarriors and Pathfinders in cover. A 2+ save and hopefully FNP now and then should help.
Ymgarls did ok, but they are effective only if supported by the rest of your army, otherwise interceptor + overwatch will cut them down. Given how difficult it is to get close to Tau at the moment I'm skeptical of their usefulness.
