After seeing Demons, Imagine our new NID codex!!

Has anyone seen the Demon codex and the Blood Thirster!!

Now I, like so many of you Nid players have our share of complaints.. and we have all talked about it, and debated it, and accepted much of it. Nids, are disadvantaged as of right now...overall...

But looking at how the Demons came out, esp the Blood Thirster... IMAGINE HOW OUR HIVE TYRANTS WILL TURN OUT with a new codex!!!

How can one justify the BloodThirster's statline for 290 compared to a 305 pt Hive tyrant?? They cant, based on rational thought.... We're gonna get our share...i can feel it.

At my LGS, where most people talk out of their @zz about how Nids are balanced or competitive... they wont be able to deny what the Demons got and what Nids will have due to them.

Its gonna be long overdue, but finally repaired... i cant wait!!

Tyranids aren't 'due' anything. They certainly aren't due to be transformed into Codex: Tyranids of Chaos. Should be interesting to see what happens with the army when it happens, but until then you're better off enjoying what you have rather than being an entitled whiner. I've come to really enjoy the current version of the Tyranid codex once I shook off the new codex panic and started exploring what I could do, rather than what I couldn't. I think it also helps to think of a new edition as an excuse to enlarge and diversify your army rather than somehow being forced to adapt.

The current Nid codex is actually pretty strong. It may not be Necron/IG/Helldrake strong, but it does okay against most of the armies.

Aside from that, you *really* can't tell what is going to happen to a codex based on another codex, it is somewhere between arbitrary and random.

I would be surprised if we havent "milked" everything good out of it (tyr-dex) yet.. so many of us have tested it to death and all come to a final list which is eerily similiar.. Flyrant? HiveGaurd? Terv?

Plus, I have grown tired of fighting with one hand tied.

It's been said many, many, many times through many, many, many threads. In 5th edition our codex options for competitive lists was clearly limited. Under 6th, those limitations changed. Where under 5th it made sense to take Tyranid Primes because Tyrants were too expensive, it now makes sense to take Tyrants because wings and codex psychic abilities make the points worth the investment (and Flyers make FMCs a necessity). However, even with the changes our codex options are still severely limitted.

Its amusing seeing new threads in the List Building section asking for feedback on a competitive list that is essentially 2xFlyrant, 2xTervigon, 2xTermagant, and Hive Guard/DoM/Ymgarl, and which is most likely identical to the previous 20 posted lists above 1250 points. 6th edition hasn't encouraged us 'Nid players to explore and field new list compositions. Which is a shame because some of our best looking models either don't get purchased or don't make it onto the table.

A new codex "should" change that. It should make Warriors, Shrikes, Harpies, Lictors, Venomthrope, Hormagaunts, PoM, OOE, Deathleaper, Carnifex, Rippers, Sky Slashers, and the Tyrannofex viable options in one list or another. Through points and/or abilities adjustments. That's 13 units that rarely make the cut in your average list. But what is should do and what it will do are two completely different things.

I fear our new codex has as much likelihood of nerfing the Swarmlord, Flyrant, DoM, Hive Guard, and Tervigon, as it does making Warriors and Pyrovores playable.

yeah, theres that too scrota.. we end up taking stuff for "fun".. Alot of stuff.. and our army would look so cool on the field with everything on it.. but if were interested in winning a game at all, we simply cant take a tyrano

On the bright side tho.. 6th psyc and swoop mode helped us alot... even if it tunneled our lists.. i supposed we can enjoy a semi-efficient non-varied army in the meantime until we can dust off our other models and give em some action.

I love the idea of lictors and VenomThropes...their itching to get on the board again..

So put them on the board and play with them. I mean, you risk losing and looking like a fool, which certainly is sufficient deterrent for all right-thinking posters, but you might also have a fun game and discover the strategies and tactics that they open up for the Tyranid army.

Best to keep in mind that though our codex is strong in many ways, it's not a good codex. A good one is like Dark Eldar, where nearly every unit is good, and only really one of them seems genuinely bad to me (Vect's pimpmobile).

It's like Tau - a person laughed at me for saying Tau need a new update, citing them as being very powerful now. Whilst they do have advantages and good ally options, I still wouldn't call it a very interesting and varied list in terms of what you can feasibly use.

I agree with the OP. It is interesting to see what GW has planned for CC armies in the shootfest that is 6th edition. While there is no correlation between one codex or another balance wise trends that pop up in the new daemon codex may very well apply to ours. Here is to hoping for a balanced codex with plenty of cost efficient choices.

I agree, looking at some of the lists doing well at major tourneys around the country, they all have the same units in them, some combination of

Too bad there isn't more variety available....

how have DE fared in 6th? i'd have to figure against anyone but nids not too well with a whole army being T3 in av 10/11 skimmers. no one here plays them so i've got little to go by.

I think they fair pretty well my friend in my gaming circle plays and he has much more success than me...

Out of all the 5th edition codexs we need one the most...

nids are still solid, tau and eldar are in far more need of a codex then the nids sorry to say.
