In a game yesterday, a ton of questions came up that my opponent and I had issues answering, and I was hoping the Hive could shed some light on them, and, preferably, give citations to the passages in the BRB which answer these questions. We read through it very thoroughly last night, but it's always possible that we missed something.
1) What happens in a combat if a player loses the combat due to infantry dying, but also has a Walker in the combat? How do you resolve the combat for the Walker, as he doesn't have a Ld value?
We played it that he automatically passed the Morale check as Walkers don't (typically) have Ld values.
2) If a Transport gets Stunned, Passengers can't shoot. Does this mean that:
a- passengers inside of the vehicle cannot shoot, but if they disembark are no longer considered passengers and can shoot normally
or
b- an embarked unit is declared at the time of the Stunning to be unable to shoot in the following turn, whether or not they disembark
We played it as 'b', mostly because of how it would work logically, but I'm struggling to find a RAW that supports it.
3) When assaulting, you roll 2d6 for determining charge distance, but you could potentially roll 3d6 if you have to go through cover. When and how is this determined? By the initial charging model only? What happens if a later model goes through terrain? Is there anything that binds models after the initial charger to taking the path of least distance?
This one was pretty complicated, so I'll draw a terrible diagram with letters.
A C
B T D
Unit AB is charging unit CD. Suppose that: A is 5'' from C, and B is 7'' from D. You roll a 7 on your charge distance (on 2d6). A takes the path of least distance to C, since it is the initial charger, at which point B has to attempt to reach an unengaged enemy model. He is exactly 7'' away from D, and will have to charge through the terrain(T). Obviously, if AB doesn't have Assault grenades, they will strike at I1.
Now let's say that AB rolls a 9 on the charge distance. A to C takes place like before, but can B now take a curved charge towards D by going around the terrain? Allowing the unit to remain at regular initiative?
We played this one that you roll the 2d6/3d6 to charge based on the closest model which is the initial charger, since, how can you ever really know if you're going to be charging through terrain or not?
There is that one line on page 21 that says, "Charging units must attempt to engage as many opposing models in the enemy unit with as many of their models as possible - no holding back or trying to avoid terrain!", but the bold portion seems to mean that you can't avoid terrain to lower your models in base-to-base with enemies, or was our interpretation of this line too vague?
Anyway, it's some rather in depth questions, and I look forward to hearing what the Hive has to say, since my opponent and I were both able to see the two sides to each coin.
