Why the new DMC game made me sick to my stomach.

Eh I'm not to that part yet I guess...spoiler alert? But ya I'm actually loving the reboot so far, as is a lot of the critics who blasted it at first. If I had to take a guess who the woman was I'm guessing it is probably mundus's queen giving birth to the antichrist pretty much. Since her and her child were already alluded to needing to go. Idk if you bothered watching the CCs all the way through but it was seen coming for a while. And the demons gotta go what can I say? But ya if I'm wrong and it was just some random prwgnant woman then I gotta agree thats over the top. But ya I javent beat the game yet

I don't really care. the biggest thing that seems to urk you about the demon infanticide is that they said it was targeted to a younger audience.
1) I think they meant people who aren't long term fans.
2) It was an excuse to give the long term fans.

I actually liked feeling for the demons when they had slightly less evil motivations and that you could relate to them some what. SPOILER FROM NOW ON! Virgil wanting to rule mortals, I think, also helped with this idea that the demons weren't just stupid malevolence, so was the traitor, Spada.

So no, it doesn't really mess with me that much - heaps of the demons are child like such as hovering cherubs; it really didn't catch me that off guard.

Shooting a pregnant woman is just another step in the escalating game of "how far can we push the envelope". When "there's something about mary" came out, I'm pretty sure there were people demanding refunds for their theater ticket based on the same argument as yours. This isn't the fault of any particular movie or video game producer it's just the direction pop culture is taking. If you want to produce a successful product you have to get on the train and enjoy the ride.

I don't mean to dismiss your views, and I'm sorry you had to see something that offended you that badly in a video game however that game is rated M which usually gives a strong indication of what kind of content you'll find.

You know...before i had kids i would have said that te scene described was upsetting. Now..having 2 little ones running around the house...the idea of it makes me sick to my stomach. I want good plots and story twists to keep me interested in a game...not shock value.

Never liked the DMC series, wasn't going to buy the new game anyway.

But yeah, sock value never really appealed to me even in movie, I'll take a good plot over groce effects and twisted themes anyday

I went and looked this up to see just what was happening here.

I think what bothers me more is the fact that people were saying it's a demon, and a freaky demon baby that you've apparently already fought or something. But people don't seem to mind the rather gruesome act of a pregnant being having it's womb shot out.

Seeing it from a purely gaming mechanic, you'd probably in any other situation see this just as a 'weak spot', but here it really does kind of emphasise the fact you're shooting a mother in her occupied womb - and then doesn't care as much due to the fact it's not human. It really is quite messed up.

That said the whole birthing demons thing and killing demonic babies - eh its not that new to be honest. It's been done in Drakengard, A Song of Ice and Fire touches on the subject in several ways and I suspect there are many other series which do it as well. It might be the first "main stream" targeted game to try it but its not anything new or untouched ground.

Heck I think Dragon Age or Dragon Age 2 has some giant warped motherbeast creature that you kill.

Dragon Age 1. Nice thing is Bioware doesn't say how the Dark Spawn are created...but its insinuated that its rape by Dark Spawn.

Each person has their own things that they dislike to the point where it breaks a story or game. For some people it can be very tame things for others very specific subjects. In the end we are all different in what we do and don't like and also in how much emotional investment we make into a game and how that in turn affects us (the same is true of books and movies).

In the end trying to go down the "this is worse than that" game is a silly game where nobody wins because there isn't anything to win.

To be honest though, games like Dragon Age are meant to be serious. Heck, you ever spoken to Leliana properly, or that poor lass in the market town centre in Dragon Age 1? Lot of implied rape there.


I think what bugs people about DMC doing it is the fact that it's meant to be a tongue-in-cheek crazy shoot/slice fest. Serious stuff in it just feels wrong and gives off the impression it's something to mock.
