Well that would mean the Malanthropes will have no cover as Rippers certainly wouldn't obscure 25% of the Malanthropes. I'm curious how you plan on keeping them alive early in the game.

Isn't a ripper list about the most expensive way to put a 40k army together? How do you buy all those rippers? Going by the GW site they sell for £8.50 per base!!

I'd recast them personally. They are small enough and low enough in detail that you can easily dupe them.

I fought a ripper list on two occasions. I'd recommend breaking them up into:

Melee - TS only
Transport Busting - AG + wings

The guy I played against took down my Tervis and marine buddy by sheer weight of 4+ poisoned attacks. He never bothered with Spinefists (altho that might be useful, but barely), and only had trouble against transports (which he used Raveners to pop instead) because his Rippers were divided into stock and AG/TS. We analyzed the list and agreed breaking them into half TS and half AG was probably more tactically helpful.

If you want shooting rippers I guess tunnel swarmers with TS might replace the TS-only swarms, but I can't reliably comment on that.

Thanks for the analysis. I've found that spinefists are worth their weight in gold in 6th, the more saves I make them roll the better.

A full brood of 9 shooting at t4 3+sv should give ~3.3 wounds, when over watching it only drops to ~1.8 wounds.

Even when being charged Toxin sacs are good. vs T4 you won't be getting the reroll, but that's ok. if I ever do charge, I have to make sure it's worth the losses to Overwatch.

I've tended to drop the AG all together as I don't find it that usefully since my main opponent is Nurgle Deamons. If I was taling the list somewhere, I'd probably use it for insurance. Even if I loose 1 base to Overwatch, I'd still have 40 attacks on the charge hitting on 5's wounding on 4+ with a reroll, so assuming t4 3+sv that's ~3.3 wounds and I'm now tarpitting the unit.

I tend to actually assault only when I have to, I'd be better off to get in a round of shooting and a round of Overwatch than a round of shooting, and be overwatched before assaulting.

Also, by not splitting up what brood has what, I can be very flexible with how I DS and deploy my list.

Lots of trading from other Nid players and e-bay. The bases actually cost me more than the rippers. I did the math once, I think the total (counting my Parasite) was $120, $50 on the Parasite bits, $40 on bases and $30 on rippers.

Terrain is your friend. The whole list has move through cover. We always have enough terrain that I can get some cover.

This sounds like a really fun list! I'll work towards this myself for sure! I had planned on building a swarm list and I knew I wanted a lot of Rippers... but you guys make they sound like they are actually useful past tarpitting. ^_^

All of the Rippers with hove nodes on the bases are Sky Slashers. I just couldn't think of an easier way to distinguish them and not have them break all the time.
