8 or 9 Tervigons - What's best/most competitive?

So the question is: What's the most competitive between 8 or 9 Tervigons? I am currently running 5 Tervigons and on my way to getting the other 3-4... so what would be the best way to go?

My thoughts...
The first list has your basic Tervigons with Catalyst and Dominion and depending on your opponent you could roll on the appropriate chart for powers... Flyer heavy, roll for Objuration Mechanicum, Dark Eldar keep Catalyst, Space Marines or Necrons/Tau/Eldar - Biomancy.

Spawning every round for every Tervigon & not losing any to shooting ;D:

Turn 1: about 95 Termagants
Turn 2: about 53 Termagants
Turn 3: about 32 Termagants
Turn 4: about 21 Termagants
Turn 5: about 11 Termagants
Total Spawned = about 223 Termagants

The downsides compared to the other lists, are fewer powers and close combat ability of the Tervigons. I don't know about your games, but I really miss my CC when I don't bring them.

Which leads me to list #2: Added powers and crushing claws with the loss of one Tervigon in the HQ section. Also, swapping Psychic Powers on the Warlord to keep cost down and make the points balance out. This has more hitting power in a 1v1 match up with the Tervigons but lower overall output with the Termagant spawning.

Turn 1: about 84 Termagants
Turn 2: about 53 Termagants
Turn 3: about 32 Termagants
Turn 4: about 21 Termagants
Turn 5: about 11 Termagants
Total Spawned = about 212 Termagants

What are your thoughts?

It may win games (or draw a lot) but how boring?!?!

Do you really need that many spawned gants?

My solitaire list would love to face this, but I wouldn't want to play against it for fun in all honesty.

Aside from making fun of my list, neither one of you contributed anything positive..

I would think that two guys that have been around as long as you could at least answer the question instead of making fun.

I would gladly crush both of you with this list if I have a chance.

I'm not trying to make friends with this list, I don't want to give anyone a hug. I want to utterly demoralize my opponent while grinding into the ground.

Well there isn't a lot in it, is there?

Losing 1 Terv to beef up the rest. Obviously you aren't short on Tervs or spawning, so the extra attacks and powers probably are worth it.

I doubt anyone can conclusively say which is more competitive since no one would field it. You would never get past turn 2/3 in tournaments because of time limits. You'll lose points with any comp scoring. You'll probably not make any friends so might even be scored down on sportsmanship.

Maybe if you weren't so enthusiastic about "grinding demoralised opponents into the ground" (with plastic toys), people might be more friendly and helpful?

Now if you wanted to have a hypothetical discussion about the weaknesses in a super-cheese list, I'd ask questions about them.

Personally I'd be worrying about over-crowding on the board, meaning that when you need to get a Terv into contact with a vehicle, there might be too many gaunts in the way; I think 8 better Tervs would be more versatile than 9 weaker ones.
I suggest playtesting it with both. I look forward to Batreps!

Just to clarify a few things, I'm not a bully player. I've been on here long enough for people to know that. I have a battle blog up that shows how many army lists that I play with. I try different lists all of the time and change things often.

I'm kind of surprised as to how much hate this list is inspiring. Maybe its what I'm looking for...

However, there are several groups that I play with and one is the uber competitive group with polished tweaked lists that more often than not have me packing up the bugs turn 3.

These are the guys who need a good curb stomping. Not the average guys on Wed night who are out to have a good time.

So if its at all possible, can we please min/max this bad boy and put ethics aside? This isn't to beat up on ten year olds with. It's to provide a unique kind of threat that I think most people won't be able to deal with...namely an extra 1000 points of bugs in a 2k game.

This is for the power gamers, let's call it a WAAC list if we must.

It's well worth dropping to 8 to make the others considerably more scary.

Easy and boring beyond belief, but if that's what you're going for, yeah it would probably work.

Personally I think double FoC is daft, all it does is promote spammy, boring lists, no balanced list would use it other than maybe adding a 3rd HQ or 4th Elites slot for utility reasons, and those could be fixed by letting Tyranids ally with themselves.

Every time I've skipped on crushing claws, I've ended up wishing I had it. You won't miss that last tervigon when the ones you do have on the table are able to hold their own in CC. Seriously, the opponent is going to be so overwhelmed from the start that that one or two less tervigons won't make a bit of difference.

It's not the ethics of using this list that bothers me the most, it's the idea of painting all the associated termagants. Seriously, if you can bring yourself to do it, I suppose you've earned the right to play with them. I'm having a hard enough time making enough for two tervigons without having a nervous breakdown... I've already burned through four audio books, and the gant pile doesn't seem to be any closer to completion. It's one of the few times I wish GW included less paintable detail on a model.

I think it would be a fun list to play once in while, more of a "lets see how many guys you can kill before getting overrun" type mentality. I think the 8 terv's list would be a bit better since you are going to have so many bodies anyways that it would be worth it to have your big bugs hit harder

Definetly the list with fully upgraded Tervi's. (that's the 8x list)

One extra tervi isn't going to matter anymore, and you'll be happy when you are smashing your way through vehicles with those Crushing Claws. Also take stinger salvo on all of them. Cluster spines is just going to kill your own gaunts. And with the SS you'll still have a chance to hurt aircraft. Then again, with a bit of good positioning, there'll be almost no space to place fliers.

If you're going to play this list, make sure to post some battle reports. Some might call it OP (I hate spamming myself ), but actually it's a rather fluffy list. You know, Without Number....

Lol you'll never need OM for flyers because they'll have nowhere to go.

I'm a huge fan of eight beefed up Tervigons simply because it depressed me how expensive all of that will cost you, but secondly because you want some punch in this list and not totally rely on flood the board tactics.

Sorry swarm492, DFoC Tau would not be scary against this.

You're gonna struggle with fliers.

I'd say keep it at 8 tervi's and maybe try and work in a devil-flyrant for AA. But your opponents target priority is going to be funny to watch. This list might suffer some on purge missions but hey that's 1/6 games and even then they're still not bad.

Double Force Organisation Charts are stupid.

I would be wary of your Termagant unit placement. With so many units on the board, there is a good chance that several could be in range of a single Tervigon which is bad news should they kill it because you'll lose several Termagants and open up a large gap for their units to fit into. With this in mind, you then have to consider the placement of the Termagants if they get assaulted since they can be dragged out of the 6" buff range.

How would flyers be a problem? Turn 1 he'll have roughly 130-140 gants on the board, turn two add another 40+, flyers will come on, maybe get one shot before they have to fly off the board the following turn. This list takes away all flyer maneuverability, I wouldn't care about a dedicated anti flyer plan.
