I use as few as possible. Every other FOC slot is potentially scoring now.
They are also potentially victory points for the opponent.
Whoever said Pyrovore, this is for you
asdfghjkl;
ANYWEH.
I prefer Hive guard. 6th edition I found somewhat an interest in Ygenes, but they are SOOO fragile and expensive compared to their other elite brethren I have a hard time justifying them without having to.
I can't use Zoanthropes. They worthlessness to me in 5th edition left a bad taste in my mouth. They could possibly be good now, having ability to be a support role, but I ultimately just don't find them more appealing than Tervigons
I don't, however, concern myself with the fact elites can't be scoring. i find that to be an advantage. Why? They can't die and give up points to the opponent. A group of 20 gargoyles rapidfired to death in Scourge gives the opponent a VP.. a group of 3 hive guard being shot to death at any time outside of Purge the alien does nothing for the opponent except the obvious "I killed a threat" which can be argued for any model.
An opponent will be more inclined to shoot down a scoring unit that also has huge impacts on the game (A scoring trygon, for example), especially if that same scoring unit is on an objective. Hive guards on an objective are generally ignored for the purposes of being on objectives. Best they can do is contest, denying 3 victory points. That isn't the same as being ahead 3 and the opponent can look elsewhere for VP (like... killing the aforementioned trygon)
That's just me. I like Hive Guard, Tervigons, Trygons, and mass T6 throughout my list. Mass T3 seems to die a lot, especially at an LGS where T3 is common among the players. T6 just fits better with my list, is all. T4, you can feel how many wounds it takes. And that is just "take a risk, take a risk, take a risk" to me, one i don't like.
Especially for a unit I invest 150+ points in (Hive guard/zoeys/ygenes all cost that) I can't afford it to die easily before its job is done... one of its jobs is to be a threat and take fire.
Everything in my list has to be a threat to the opponent. if it isn't then I am not playing the list right, i feel.
