In my area people have swung through the de-mech stage and have started to come back to mech. I can see tournament players figuring out that compeltely de-meching was possibly an overreaction and could come back part way. Vehicles are not all bad after all. I've been finding a use for at least one unit of Hive Guard in most games. The mentality here is changing a little though, they are being used more as a backfield bunker rather than forward expeditionary units. Sometimes my hive guard have trouble ranging their targets for a couple tuns. I think it will be interesting to see how the tournament meta adjusts over time.
Also, with 6th edition, I've fallen in love with Y-stealers. They are so useful and can do so much that I can't believe I never played with them before. You might want to try them out in place of a squad of Hiveguard and see if you don't like it. They synergize really well with anything that is so resilient that there are limited threats in the enemy force. For example, your Flyrants only fear a few enemy units (hydra tanks, aegis quadguns, etc..) but the Y-stealers can pop out and eat those threats. Suddenly, the enemy has to deal with stealers in the middle of his army, and his options for dealing with your other big threats have been reduced.
