Moving gaunts takes so long anyone ever thort of u

I played a game yesterday were I used 66 gaunts (56 hormaguants and 10 termaguants) and it took ages to move the units so I've been thinking of making movement trays so there spaced about an inch apart with space for 5 models per try.has any one ever tried this?

honestly it would be a complete failure in game. There are so many ways you would want to move your troops that would not work with trays. Not to mention cover and buildings etc...

think you'd have serious problems with terrain/ruins?

I tried it for a while. Never did manage to find a tray that worked. Everything either kept them so spread out that they were always going through difficult Terrain or so close that they were Blast Bait.

Also, there were too many times when I really needed to shift my formation to deal with Terrain, positioning of other Models (on both sides), or Objectives.

So not much benefit, and it was another significant chunk of stuff that I had to carry around, and a Nid Army is enough to haul as it is.

Yeah I guess moving through terrain would be a pain. I'll still try it out but I agree they probably won't be practical in a lot of situations

you get use to it. I play with 50- 75 guants every game..it never gets easy but you don't notice it as much over time.

Movement trays would ruin this.

Are you using a tape measure or a gaming aid? I highly recommend a gaming aid: several manufacturers make them, and they usually have edges of different lengths for movement and coherency; the 6" edge makes moving your gaunts much quicker, and the 2" edge makes checking coherency very easy! My group have recently bought them, and we're all finding that you can spread out much wider than we had before now that we can easily see just under 2"!

Ask your opponent if he minds you doing your fleet moves in the movement phase, it saves moving the models twice.

Personally I just measure/move the front left and right then move all the rest to roughly where they were previously in coherency. I always tell my opponents this and they never have a problem with it. Often I measure several times during a movement but never for every single Term.

Having generally disagreed with the suggestion of movement trays, I could see one use for them: initial deployment, and maybe even a first movement turn.
When entering tournaments, I have each unit set up in an old CD box tray, and a wooden tray that holds 10 of those, so that as my models get killed, I put them back in their gaps ready for the next game; it saves a lot of time over either piling them up, or packing them away.
If you regularly deploy a gaunt screen to maximum coherency, the OP's trays would speed this up, and when the time came to position them differently, THAT's when you move them off their trays.
