I am buying my first set today any suggestions

Some big Tyranids and some small Tyranids.

... Nah, I'm being sardonic. Get a Hive Tyrant if you're going for a 1000 point plus team, or Maybe some warriors to make a prime. You'll need a Tervigon and Termagants. Other than that, check and see what your team to do.

Look at the various lists people are playing.

Assuming you are aiming for 1000+, the cookie cutter aproach is: 1-3 tervigons, about 30 termagants per tervigon (10 on board to make tervigon a troop, rest for spawning), 1-2 tyrants with wings and 2x twin linked devourers, 3-9 Hive guard (as many as will fit within your point limit), and then either trygons or gargoyles to fill up the rest.

How many points you want to sink into bio-morphs is up to you and your strategy.

Get yourself a Tervigon, a couple Hive Guard, plenty of Termagants and fill in from there. I recommend Miniature Market if you're buying new, they're always 25% off and 1% back. Best price I've found anywhere.
