So the matches tonight were 1500 points. I brought an experimental list that I knew was a real winner. I just wanted to try a few tactics
== HQ ==
Hive Tyrant (1) - Lash Whip And Bonesword, Twin-Linked Deathspitter, Armoured Shell, Paroxysm, Leech Essence, Old Adversary = 250 pts.
== Elites ==
Hive Guard Brood (2) = 100 pts.
Zoanthrope Brood (160 pts.)
Zoanthrope (2) = 120 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) = 40 pts.
Hive Guard Brood (2) = 100 pts.
== Troops ==
Tervigon (1) - Scything Talons, Cluster Spines, AG, Toxic Miasma, Cat, Onslaught, Taken As Troops = 220 pts.
Termagant Brood (13) - Fleshborer = 65 pts.
Termagant Brood (190 pts.)
Termagant (15) - Devourer = 150 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) = 40 pts.
== Fast Attack ==
Gargoyle Brood (15) - AG = 105 pts.
Spore Mine Brood (3) = 30 pts.
Spore Mine Brood (3) = 30 pts.
== Heavy Support ==
Tyrannofex (1) - Acid Spray, Stinger Salvo, Thorax Swarm - Electroshock Grubs = 250 pts.
== Total ==
1500 pts.
My opponent ended up being an IG player that everyone would agree is hard to play against.
First frustrating move on his part: He showed up without a list and so builds an army against 'Nids. We're talking two Executioners platooned with plasma gun side sponsons and las cannons, two standard Russes platooned, Five vet squads, Lord Commissar, and Primaris Psycher. Can't camp against that army and can't expect to be in one piece marching towards it camped against the back board edge.
I'm okay going up against any list, but not happy knowing its built to beat me.
Second frustrating event: Big Guns Never Tire. Yup, worst possible option.
Third Frustrating event: Mysterious Terrain, all killy for the models in it. Messes with deployment and since it was all in the mid field and I was the one that had to be attacking through it it was a problem for me, not him.
fourth Frustration: My opponent never rolled any "Gets Hot" for his Executer side sponson weapons or for his vets. I know the Executioner cannon is immune, but the others are not.
I basically got I strongly disagree handed to me as his Executioners took down my Tyrannofex first, then my Tyrant. With my gargoyles whittled to nothing I called it at that point as I was still at least another turn of movemeht away from any real close combat. He had First Blood and Warlord kill. My zoans came in by a Vet Unit and based on my game-long horrible rolls killed only two models. My 'gants in spore pod hadn't even made it on the board thanks to a reserves roll that would have passed except his Warlord had the ability that puts a -1 penalty on all Reserve rolls. Game lasted all of two full turns.
There were several things I could have done differently in deployment and all that. Right now I'm still steaming over the lack of sporstmanship. I congratulated him on the win but also told him bluntly that next time he comes to play he should have a list prepared. He said "I can see how that could look like poor sportsmanship." To which I replied "It doesn't look like it, it is poor sportsmanship. Tailoring your list against your opponent is bush league."
Having a hard time letting it go. Side sponson "Gets Hot" could have scored me an Executioner kill as Puppet master took one vehicle down to only two hull points. Might have opened that side of the board up and certainly would have given me one more round with the Tyrant.
Just needed to vent.
