So a Brood of Gaunts can do their nails or play poker inside a house and The Hive Mind can't do anything about it? By that I mean if a Brood of Tyranid are inside a building, they don't have to test of IB? Why?

Where in the rules or Codex would even suggest this? I mean why does this have to be a FAQ and not an Errata?

Was this just something added to "offest" the out of the blue that Tyranids can't fire Emplaced Weapons or Weapons emplaced?

I may be missing your point, but I don't see the big problem.

When a Gaunt has nobody to boss it around, and no nearby threats to worry about, its rudimentary instincts kick in and it seeks shelter. That's why the Lurk rule sends them scampering towards area terrain. So I guess this rule keeps them in their safe, concrete building, instead of pouring out like idiots to skulk around in the nearest available underbrush.

Your post makes no sense, because if the unit was testing for IB in the first place, it was because the Hive Mind couldn't do anything about it, and they were operating within their own limited prerogative.

I don't think it was ever brought up on any of the fourms that I have read. I have never read, "if my gaunt is in a building and I am not withing 12" of synapse, does the guant have to test of IB?"

But your answer makes sense in a way, that the building is area terrian then. But still, if it doesn't have to test for IB, then it's still a scoring unit (I believe if you fail your IB you can't score that turn) so hence why again, I ask, where in the BGB of 6th edition would say that Tyranids don't have to check for IB when in a building?

If this wasn't brought up in the FAQ, I would asume that any Tyranid not within 12" of synapse and has either Lurk or Feed special rule, would indeed need to test for IB.

So in effect, just like how GW threw in we can't fire weapons, we get a bonus of not checking for IB in buildings. Hence it's basically Gaunts can do whatever they want as long as some brick and mortor surrounds them.

Boy the Hive Mind is loosing it's grasp. First a Blade of grass will help you against the DoM Spirit Leech, and Brick and Mortar makes Gaunts smarter.

I would guess that it never came up before because there were no standardized, core-game building rules in 5th edition. So this seems like their way of pre-emptively fixing an ugly situation that could have come up in the new ruleset (units leaving the superior cover of a building in order to seek out area terrain).

Basically we now follow the embarked rules all other armies use. The difference is, buildings are the only vehicles we can enter.

Units inside vehicles/buildings are treated more or less 'off the board' as they can't be targetted etc. This is just an extension of that, like how we don't test when coming in from reserve.

wait wait wait. So basically. If a Gaunt brood walk in a building with a warrior brood and then the warrior brood walks out of range. Then because they are in the building ( treated kind of like a vehicle) they don't need to make a IB test.

I believe you would eventually have to exit the building to claim the objective, considering that vehicle-embarked units can't claim.

Also, a couple of things have to go your way during deployment for that to work. The building needs to somewhere easily accessible, and an objective needs to be placed nearby. Your opponent can influence where objectives can be placed if he goes before you do.

Also, damaging buildings hurts the unit inside. Check the rule book guys, it's nothing new

The way I see it, take some scoring Gaunts, Devil, Hormies or Flesh (does anyone use Spine anymore? ) hide them in the building, don't worry about Synapse, on the last turn (if you can predict it) since they don't have to test for IB, they are STILL a scoring unit and can rush to an objective if they are close enough.

Remember, (please correct me if I am wrong) You don't need a door or window to go in or out of a building, you can just go through the walls (breaking them down I guess unless other wise said so before the game starts).

Also about Gaunts can be damaged in a building, I think that is ok. I mean what would you rather have? Your gautns being shot at, or being inside something that has a AV to protect you? Also if they are shooting at the building, they are not shooting at other Broods.

A tactic that I need to try, at least to just see how it would work and screw with my oppoents.

Well, I wasn't so much thinking about claiming an objective, unless it would be along the lines Davor suggested. I thought that it might work better to use the objective point as bait and then jump out when my opponent decided to risk going for it. I'm hoping that they get so wrapped up in the rest of my army jumping on them that they might even forget I have guys hiding in the building.

Just want to make sure. Bastions and buildings are different correct? Buildings you can go through doors, windows and walls, while Bastions you can only go through the door correct?

With Ruins, you can go through walls and such freely.

For Buildings, including Fortifications like the Bastion and Fortress of Redemption, you need to use an Access Point.
