I'd like to tell a story. Not a tale of damsels and heroics but a chronicling of one veteran general evolving and changing to an entirely new dynamic, that in many ways, is not a new foe but one that he has battled many times in the past. It is a tale of trials and hardships and overcoming change and challenge.
My story begins six of earth's solar cycles ago near the end of the fourth age where the great Tyranid menace was a force to be feared with their ability to consolidate straight into combat! The future looked bright for this fresh young adult with his force of the great devourer.
Things did not always go the way that he planned though, and soon a new age had begun, the age of the fifth. No longer could his forces continue to maintain a hug close combat sweep against his opponents forces and he was require to re-evaluate everything he knew about his alien fleet. He quickly realized that it was time for his army to reveal the most potent and violent force they could deliver. They called it, "Nidzilla." The massive, unrelenting masses he sent out to consume all who opposed him wrecked havoc from both brutal range and violent mortal combat. Once again, things looked promising for the general of this alien menace, but like all good things, these days would come to an end.
Then, as if appearing from a great warp-storm came a vast wave of change to all he knew. The force that he knew and loved had evolved instantaneously and he knew not what to do. This new "codex" had caused him to rethink the tactics of his skittering swarm in ways he never could have imagined. Gone was the "Nidzilla." But, through perseverance and painful trial and error he managed to get a solid feel for what was needed of his swarm to ensure his opponents were once again made to fear the great devourer as they once had.
Now he is at a new threshold in this sixth age of strife. Things look bleak, but as before he will learn from each defeat and, like the great devourer he leads, evolve to overcome any obstacles placed before him. In a dark quiet room, with a single candle lighting his labors, he suddenly reaches an profound realization. He leans back, and for the first time in many of earth's lunar cycles, he releases the great battle cry that had once struck fear into his foes. "For the swarm!"

All theatrics aside, I have been playing since fourth edition and have had the joy of evolving right alongside my first love of 40k, the Tyranids. Now, admittingly, I have left my Tyranids in a dark and dismal drawer since the onset of 6th edition. I have been running my necrons(to amazing effect) and am now beating myself up for having shelved my first loves. I feel extremely guilty. Any time I had hit a wall with my Tyranids in the past I had always figured out a way to overcome and turn them into an unstoppable force of hungry pain dealers. I NEED to play them again. I haven't felt this fueled since I placed in the 'Ard Boyz tournament with a Blood Angels list that I had meticulously(and slightly obsessively) labored over for months fine tuning and perfecting it.
The point is, I know Tyranids are in a (please do not swear) place right now and it is now my personal goal to reclaim their former glory. I am going to experiment with every unit in the codex in as many ways as I can think of. I will evaluate every biomorph and upgrade and then re-evaluate and compare and contrast every little damn thing in our codex. My first idea is to make my current build and feel for my tyranids from fifth edition which was a winged swarm. Worked great. Ninety gargoyles with two winged lashwhip and bonesword scytalons old adversary tyrants and shrikes. Worked wonders and made people cry. I think(especially with 2 FOC's now) I can make the flying circus work(here harpy harpy harpies!).
If anyone has constructive things to add to this, it would be much appreciated. I just want my babies back T.T
