How many gants can a Tervigon spawn?

Hey all, new to warhammer 40k so learning the ropes.

What are the restrictions on how many gants a Tervigon can spawn? (not including rolling doubles etc). Are you limited by points or troop slots?

Eg. In a 2000 point battle, if I have exactly 2000 points on the table and a bucket of 200 termagants beside me.... can I just keep on spawning gants til i roll doubles or run out of gants?

but remember for every tevigon you want as troops you need a troop of termagants.

3-108 per Tervie, assuming 7 turns. The spawned Gants count as a unit of troops, but exist outside the FOC and point limit. This means you can have 2 HQ Tervies, 3 troop Tervies, 3 gant units, and be at 2000 points. You could potentially finish the game with 41 troop units (6+ [5x7 spawn]) and 4700 points. That's very unlikely to happen though.

Best I have ever gotten was 27 from one tervigon, the average seems to be about 12-18 though. For me anyway.

I find that many times, spawning with a tervigon is a all or nothing choice. I usually start spawning early in the game and try to flood the board quickly rather than carefully thinking about when to do it. Every game I play, the result is I either roll doubles on turn 1 or never do at all. I've had a game where I spawned 69 termagants with one tervigon. That game was a draw. Freaking necrons...

I tend to wait to mid to late game, but then again I play with larger broods or 25 terms and 20 horms. Anyone else wait till late in the game?

In short:

1 Tervigon will spawn, on average, 2.2 broods/game, of average 11 Gaunts each.

However, that is purely an average - 50% of the time it will spawn more than this. If we add 1 standard deviation's worth of extra broods/gaunts to accommodate a 'likely high water mark', you will want around ~54 Termagants for a single Tervigon, and add 40 more Termagants per Tervigon. However, don't forget you will probably be recycling some as they die (otherwise you're doing it wrong!)

If you want a theoretical maximum... well, then you're talking 15 Gaunts over 7 turns with no losses = 135 Gaunts. That is an extremely unlikely result (rolling 6+5+4 every turn for 7 turns).

7 turns maximun in a game, the absoute maximum possible gant spawn is 15 per turn except turn 7 which is 18 (4,5,6 all the way to triple 6's) so the most unrealistic but still possible number 1 tervigon can produce is 98

The odds are 1 in 470 billion, and that's assuming the Tervigon lives 7 turns. I.e, if 100,000 Tyranid players ran 5 Tervigons and played 2 games a day, every day, and each of those games ran all 7 turns, and the Tervigons never died, it will happen once every 1287 years (accounting for leap years), on average.

Not sure why I added 8 rather than 18... I had just woken up, I'll blame that.

I have 20 green ones, 16 blue, and 10 red(who are normally my paid for unit, and rarely find myself needing more; the 20 usually gets split, and having different colours helps identify separate spawned units.
