Trying to make competitive list 1850

I have tried out so many lists and nothing I make seems to be really working. I want a list that can get up in someones face quick, and do some damage. This is the list I have come up with so far:

HQ:

2 Tyrant guard

1 Hive Tyrant

Elite:
1 Doom of Malan'tai with Mycetic spore pod

Troops:
10 termagaunts

Any help or advice would be awsome. I am just fustrated and not sure what to do just yet.

What ends up hurting you the most in games? Are losing on objectives? Getting tabled? Let's hear what your weak points have been so far and we can figure some stuff out

-If the Raveners dont have Rending claws, they should. With that many attacks they become very deadly on the Rends.

-Adernal Glands and Toxin Sacs would be really good on the Tervigons, if you're playing an aggressive style, they should be following along with your birthed units of Termagants to give them those benefits. Use cover to advance using Move Thru Cover.

-The shooty Flyrant isn't bad, good aerial vehicle killer but I fear what happens when you face a fast skimmer army (DEs, Tau, Eldar and to a degree Necrons). But it would be nice to squeeze a unit of Hive Guard in there.

My suggestion is combine the Raveners into a big unit, and with the remaining points make the adjustments as above.

Also, what armies do you typically face?

I currently come up against Blood angels, Imperial guard, Space wolves, Grey knights, and sometimes Necrons and Grey knights. The main problems that I have is it takes my units to long to reach my opponent and in return they get massacred. Another thing I am having trouble with is that I don't know the typical Tyranid deployment style and tactics. I am used to playing with tau and grey knights. I found that all the tactics I know are geared towards the tau and grey knights. I am still going through a learning process with the tyranids. I absolutely love them, but I would love know how to use them effectively.

Also another problem is when I try to play defensively I get tabled pretty bad.

Trygons will be deep struck since at the same time, to where I need them. It is nice since they can not really mishap anyway. I just want the tervigons to be putting out feel no pain and that is it, thats why I did not give them much else. Raveners are effective from what I have witnessed. Swarmlord and prime I want together since they would be a nasty in close combat. Please tell me what you all think?

I don't believe that the Prime can be attached to the Swarmlord unless the Swarmlord is in a unit of Tyrant Guards, so keep that in mind. In any event, I don't really see the point of him being attached alone. If you want to make a sort of Deathstar, I'd just start with Tyrant Guard. Swarmlord will chew through everything but other deathstars, so unless you want to sink even more points into it, I'd not bother.

The Tervigons do not have Catalyst (FNP) by default, you'll have to purchase it. And really, you're not getting the most out of your Tervigons if you just use them for FNP. They're scoring, tough MCs! Because regular troops are more viable, and glancing to death is a possibility in CC, I'd recommend going the whole nine yards and loading the Tervigons up with Adrenal Glands (which are granted to nearby Termagants as well, and a Prime if one is attached to the Termagants), Crushing Claws and both psychic powers and roll for Biomancy powers. They're mostly very good and can make the Tervigon terrify to face in CC.

Unless you face a bunch of Wraithguard, Wraithlords and C'tan, or just other MCs in general, I would not bother with Toxin Sacs on the Trygons. They are already CC superstars, the upgrades are unnecessary overkill. Also, I would not bother with Regeneration either, as it is expensive yet very unlikely to be of much benefit. Furthermore, I would advise against deep striking them, because it means that they will not be in CC until turn 3 at the earliest. All DSing does in make you stand around one turn and get shot up. Cover is much easier to find for them so advancing up the field and getting into combat earlier is better in general.

I wouldn't worry about TS for the Trygons and Tyrannofex really isn't worth getting for the Rupture Cannon. If you want anti-tank, get some zoans or hiveguard. If you wanna run a Tyrannofex you'll get more oomph running him up the board with Acid Spray.

This is a very assaulty/move up the board list, so id agree with the above. Acid spray is very good, and denys cover as it is a flamer template (an AP4 one at that).

Thanks everyone for the advice, I will take all of it and put it to good use. Also I do enjoy the assaulty/move up the board type style, I have just been trying to figure out a way to make it work. With everyone's input here, I will go ahead and make a new list and post it when I am finished.

I figure that I would keep the Tyrannofex up front and let it soak up as much damage as possible, so that my trygons, tervigons, and swarlord can get up to my opponent a little unmolested I might say. I believe I like the way this list has turned out, but I still have to play test it. Any advice on this current list is welcome and would be appreciated.

List looks pretty brutal now! DE will be a serious problem but any ground/mech based armies will crumble. Don't be afraid to run the Trygons up with the T-Fex sharing cover between all those MCs.

Thanks I will keep that in mind the next time I get to play, I always kept my MC's in the back and the termaguants up front. I guess trying it the other way around could be good, since they have to pick there poison(MC's in this case).

Looks good, only i'd change are your Elites, personally i'd swap them out for Hive Guard, they just rape tanks in the new Edition.

Swarmlord rocks, Tervigons are awesome, Trygons are okay and Tyrannofex i'd say is a bit overpointed, but in this army he'd be pretty good the Strength 10 shots are very handy.
