Double checking the Charge rule

This is probably a stupid question so apologies up front – but I am a bit confused about what qualifies as a successful charge.

In the rulebook it states that a charging model must end its charge move in B2B with an enemy model, or a B2B with a friendly model of the same unit in B2B with an enemy model.

My confusion – take for example a unit of Paladins that I have tar-pitted with Gants. The Gants are completely circling the Paladin unit in B2B, only 1 Gant deep and are all in coherence (so within 2 inches of each other).

If I wanted to send in another unit to help the Gants – for example a Tervigon, there is no room to get it into B2B with a Paladin model (it can get into B2B with a Gant in B2B with a Paladin, but the Gants are a different friendly unit); so can the Tervigon successfully charge the Paladins?

^ Yep. The reason why it can't, is that the tervigon and the gants are not the same unit.

Positioning is very very important in 6th for many aspects, including CC. Consider how you charge and also how you remove casualties when you play.

Yeah - I think the "within 2 inches of a model in B2B" rule was confusing me.

Cheers for clearing this up guys - I will have to be more careful when I use my big broods.

The type of positioning this entailed hasn't changed from the edition switch. Worked the same back in 5th as well.

Positioning, in a game like this where the movement phase is 1/3 of the game, is of course important. Especially when playing with an army that uses synergy and aura buffs like nobody's business.

I got caught a few times in 5th when my Gaunts got tied up with a Dreadnaught or KillaKan: after the first round of combat, they had to swarm round, which meant there was no room for another, better unit to squeeze in, thus the gaunts were tied up for the rest of the game!

At least now they can choose to fail their morale test and escape!

Only if they are out of Synapse range. Otherwise, they are fearless and will keep trying to kill it.
