Feast of Blades, report finished, enjoy!

Hello all,
Saturday we will have the Feast of Blades qualifier tourney at our LGS and I will bring my nids to test their mettle in 6th ed.
I played 2 games so far with them and they have been doing pretty well, first game I realized that biomancy is the way to go and my second game against a death wing army proved my point, TH/SS termies that wound TMCs on 5+ is quite awesome, the challenges seem to be working out rather well and a flying HT rocks the house.
Here is my army list, if there is interest I will supply a tourney report with some pictures.

Swarm Lord with 2 Tyrant Guards
Winged Hive Tyrant with TL Dev, BS/LW, OA and HC

2x Hive Guard
3x Zoanthropes
Doom in a pod

Tervigon with 2 extra psi powers, TS and AG
10x Devilgaunts
10x Devilgaunts
8x genestealers, BL upgrade with STs

3x Raveners with RCs

Trygon with AG

about 2000 points, gotta check it one more time.

Here a couple of pictures of my flyrant in progress, the last thing i need to finish up for the tourney. I ripped him apart so that I could magnetize all the arms and have all the options I need at my disposal.

TL devs and BS/LW was chosen because vector strike uses up one shooting attack and I might get life leech as one of his 2 psi powers. Talons are redundant because of OA.

One thing I noticed, is you have AG on the Trygon.
I guess it's kind of obsolete. If you fight infantry his str6 should be enough, and when he attacks vehicles you'll be using Smash most likely.
In 6th edition, AG does not give +1 ini anymore, so you don't have to take it for that.

If you want to put a biomorph on the Trygon, go with TS for re-rolling To Wound rolls.

Apart from that, the list looks fine.

Hi - you say "Talons are redundant because of OA". Do you not think that OA (on a Flyrant) is now redundant because of T/L Devs and Talons? They both give the same or better re-rolls and in the games I have played, the Flyrant is never close enough to a friendly unit to give the OA buff...

IMO you can save the pts and ditch OA on Flyrants now.

Dirkspair, good luck at the qualifier!

Couple questions on your list:

1) Do you have much luck with only 3 Raveners? It seems like such a small number to do much good if it can even get into B2B contact. Obviously most of us didn't use them in 5th so we don't have a lot of experience, but it seems like the brood would do better at 5+ models, even with the changes to cover (or especially because of the change)

2) How do you ensure survivability for your Devgaunts? At that brood size walking across the board don't they get whittled down pretty fast?

Maybe consider the following:

* Drop the Raveners completely.
* Add a spore pod to one brood of Devgants to drop behind vehicles or tough squads for Devourer overkill
* Give Tervigon and/or Trygon Regeneration for extra survivability
* If you go with only one MC getting Regen, use the last 35 points to put TS on your 'Stealers and one more Devgant

Just my thoughts.

couple of good points, i will take poison on the Trygon instead but i will keep OA on my flyrant. one unit of troops can outflank, so the plan is to run the fly rant up one flank and have him supported by a unit of devilgaunts. and 30 shots with re rolls for the 1s on hitting and wounding should add to their shooty awesomeness.

this does not have to be a super tweaked list, i have no intention of going to Colorado for the FoB. and a lot of the peeps at our game store are not all that familiar with 6th ed yet, so i will take it as a chance to learn and teach some. it will hopefully be good, stressless fun. (kinda worried about the BA dude with his 2 storm ravens)

i like the raveners though, 15 rending attacks on the charge are nothing to sneeze at and their movement is very awesome. they get ignored a lot in favor of the bigguns and they are great for taking out small units of marines, light vehicles and other stuff. plus i only made 3, i would say i would make more but first i will concentrate on my first, big love, chaos space marines, when they come out.

So, today was the FoB qualifier tourney and we had a pretty good turn out. 16 players with all sorts of armies, drop podding marines, chaos marine/ IG alliances to eldar with ork (!) allies.

sorry about the lack of in battle pictures, time was of the essence and i needed to concentrate due to a rough night.

first game was against Adam and his necrons:

Imotekh
Overlord with scythe and 2+/3++ save

2 courts, 1 tec each with veil of darkness

3 triarch stalkers with 2x heat ray, 1x particle shredder

10 warriors with ghost arc
13 warriors
10 immortals

3 bases of scarabs
3 tomb spiders

doom scythe



basically a warm up game, my opponent was not very fluent with the new rules yet and it was a chance for me to flex nid muscle. hive guard took out his flyer with a lucky shot, his walkers performed sub par and the Doom came down sucking life out of his tomb spiders and immortals. the winged hive tyrant tied down his most dangerous unit, the storm lord with immortals and unit teleporting cryptec until the rest of the army wiped out stuff till at the end he had nothing left.

victory, 27 out of 28 possible points.

next game against Johns IG, how will the nids fare after having to run the gauntlet of good oldfashioned shootyness? stay tuned!
