How would you deal with 2 Stormraven gunships

Ouch to the stormraven carrying the venerable dread.
Honestly I dont think my opponent will think of that nasty thought....

2 Stormravens in a list is a issue for any player. And the rest of the army is inquisitor that I play so lascannons galore from the chimps in chimeras. (Sticks a psycher in there with divinatition too...re roll misses fun times)

I do have 2 nicely painted Tyranofex models. He would beeline for the fex's and I could probly take him down with OM psychic powers, hive guard and zoanthropes ETC. I think best idea is walking tyrant with guard to misdirect fire to on a 2+ and give re-rolls to shooting.

I will pick up a aegis line...every bit counts even at BS 2

Its not JUST the mindstrike that is bad. for grey knight flyers Zooming flyers can fire 4 weapons. So its 2 mindstrikes+lasconnon and multimelta. There are 12 hurricane psybolted S5 shots for when he is out of mindstrike. If you try to ignore them they will rape your entire army over the course of 3-4 turns.

Don't forget, they have really good range, It can be hard to move enough to be out of the arc the next turn especially when the flyer can turn before moving the minimum distance.

Also if there are two of them they can just nail you with 4 of them in one turn. I have lost many a tyrant to those things in 5th edition. We have almost no protection against them. Also as stated they have tons of other nasty weaponry on board that can carve huge swaths out of your forces in no time. Moving as much as they do and firing 5 weapons at BS (don't for get PotMS) allows them to shred 1 to 2 units a turn each.

It is all well and good to just try to ignore them, but they can and will annihilate your forces quickly with the firepower they bring to the table.

Remember that Mindstrike Missiles are Blast, hence cannot be shot at Flying MCs. So a Flyrant is safe from them at least (until he gets hit by a laser rifle and crashes...).

Flyers are shaping up to be a total nightmare for Nids. I suspect most competitive hard core lists will field lots of flyers, at least until new codexes come out and give armies more anti-air options. As for Nids, the Mechanicus malediction seems to be our best bet against these. But yeah if the Stormravens are carrying Dreads and/or Librarians it's game over.

I think it is possible to ignore one storm raven. Painful but possible. Two will wreck our world with little we can do back. I am hoping for good anti air options in an upcoming codex.

Guys.... get out some models and a tape measure, and try moving a flyer around the board, especially one that is stuck firing forward.

Place your proxy Stormraven on the table. First thing to realize are the guns can only depress 45degrees. Plus, it can't shoot through its own hull. (And no, they are not allowed to 'tilt' the model down.)
So it can't hit anything closer than 6-8"; and many models can't hit anything within 12".

Now look at the table. For the most part, anything 'behind' the flyer is safe, not only this turn, but next turn *and* the turn after that.
If you place something right behind a flyer, it will take a minimum of *4* turns for it to get a shot off at it.
(NOTE: This all assumes the flyer is staying on the table. It can, of course, fly off and come back next turn. But that is an entire turn it isn't shooting.)

Now look at the front 180 of the flyer.
Anything on the ground in the front of the flyer, that is within 24", can't get shot next turn, or the turn after that, or the turn after that. (And maybe more)


Now, there are some caveats to this. I believe the gun on top has a bit of a swivel, so it might get shots off a bit easier, but not much. And if they pay for the sponsons, that may help, but again, not as much as you may think.

Also, it can hit taller models (and FMC) easier, so that 6-12" blind spot doesn't count for them as much.

But really, try it. Play 'tag' where the stormraven has to take shots at a unit, and the unit has to stay out of the way....

Of course, it is hard to hide your entire army, but it means it is hard for the storm raven to pick on a specific target.

Dude... big deal. So each bird can take two big shots at you, and a 6 bolter shots....
Each flyer is *very* limited in where it may shoot next turn, therefore you pretty much know the units it may be able to shoot at. Make sure you have cover. With cover each LC or MM shot has about a 50% chance of causing a wound. So 1 wound per bird, per turn.
The bolters are a bit harder to calculate... but its only 6 S5 shots... how much damage can they do?

And again, they have a limited firing arc in the front of the flyer, and likely can't get both Hurricane bolters with LoS.


I would be more concerned with the passengers that can come piling out and assault you...

Yeah, horrendous oversight or all out intentional "screw the Nids again" move on GW's part. The fact that some of the designers said we need help is encouraging, but I'm not holding my breath since there are many armies with far older dexes than ours. I hope the rumored August release of more flyers will include a harpy model, and White Dwarf will come out with some weapon or rule to make them our goto AA option.

Not a chance. I mean sure, someone will... but as described here, that is a 255pt bird.Dumping 765 pts that can't score or deny?

We hate them because they are really deadly to single model psyker units. But without the Mindstrike missiles... they are pretty 'meh'. At least at that price.
