Tyranid movement stats. If we had them.

I started playing in 2nd Ed where most movement was 4 inches - Nids got 6 inches (and I think Eldar did too).

I agree with some others--what is the gain of the discussion of differential movement stats? Is it more 6th ed speculation? If so, then the 6th ed rulebook will certainly contain (or be paired with a pdf containing) the list for models. So why worry about it now?

Hopefully it won't, as the 6"/12" universal movement rate makes everything much simpler, and makes bigger games go faster. Just look at Ork players who choose to have some vehicles red-painted and some not to see how slow differential movement speeds can make life.

Okay, I can see why you might want movement rates then, because if you're just moving everything 6" all the time the game might be pretty boring.

On the other hand, I've found that stripping down Warhammer 40,000 to basic Troop units can be more interesting. Even when you have everything Infantry moving 6", you can get a nice spread of actions going on. I think that the trick isn't to differentiate the movement, but to give players a reason to move less than the full 6" each turn.

Something you might consider is doing fancy stuff as an example of what your son could do, like moving a screen back out so that your heavy weapons can shoot his units, and then run them back out in front. Or moving parallel to his incoming units while using rapid fire. Or setting up objective-based scenarios that require fancy movement shenanigans.

In Necromunda (don't worry, I'm on topic...) I have been trying to make a tyranid 'gang': what movement stats do you guys think would be reasonable (stealers have 6 with an unofficial supplement, base humans which make up the vast majority of troops have 4)?

I think the basic movement should be 6 for Marines and then adjust from there. (8 for quick critters and 4 for Slow)

My reasoning is that otherwise the game will slow down too much. Also, why would anybody ever get out of a vehicle if their opponent was marching towards them at 2-4" per turn. Keep a little speed in the game and it helps balance the field.

Fleet d6 and beasts still assault 12"
Jump infantry should still be 12" also, but they should always be fleet (or in Tau case: jump shoot jump)

That sounds good Nurgalitch, I will try something like that and see what happens.

@ Greatescape, this is just for me, for something different. As I said before I was thinking about Rouge Trader when it had different movement stats. (I wasn't around for 2nd so no idea how that worked.) Just got tired of everything moving 6" the same.

I forgot to say, but I like how LotR did it. Everyoen had different Movement stats and it was really fun. Added a bit extra like do I let the faster guys get ahead of the slower ones, or slow the faster guys down so they keep up with their slower buddies. This has nothing to do with 6th edition.

Also I forgot how soon 6th is coming. I had a brain fart and thought it was 6 months away.
