*Project Log* Death Guard

(1) For those of you who are not on the portent forums, I will start this thread here as well.
(2) I am not sure whether this is the good place for a project log but putting it in either painting or modelling would also be wrong, considering that im modelling first and painting second...so without further intro:

Hai ppl,

after finishing my Tyranid army last week (click on the link in my sig to see pictures), I started my next army right away, which is Death Guard!

I've always been a fan of Nurgle style armies (first fantasy and later 40k) but never had one. But I will soon! If you want to join me in my quest to spread decay and plague throughout the 40k galaxy, subscribe to this thread now and see how I gradually build up my army.

With the emphasis on gradually because both time and money is very short or limited, so dont expect major updated every day...but I will hopefully make the wait worthwile

At the beginning of this week I bought my first box of CSM and I will convert them to plague marines.

Why not buy regular PM? 1) they are more expensive 2) i dont like the models 3) converting/green stuffing your own creates much more of a challenge.

So here is a picture of how they looked assembled, without any greenstuffing:



As you can probably NOT see, there are also a variety of options glued to their backs and stuff, such as CCW (if not already in hand) or bolters (when not already in hand) and stuff like that. However I didnt feel the need to go all out on extra stuff so I kept it limited to a weapon here and there, and not WYSIWYG on every individual model.

Also the squad is armed with 1x plasma and 1x melta, but in my list I want to have 2x1 melta and 2x1 plasma in 2x7 squads...so that is only for the time being.

Hopefully I will be able to post the first picture of greenstuffed marine tonight!

My paint scheme, ehm well Im not entirely sure yet, the base colour is going to be something like camo green or something similar, maybe one of those new foundation paints to make it a bit easier, but in a comparable shade nonetheless.
I would also like to add little bits of rust on the armour. Most ppl only do that on vehicles but I think it would also look really good on power armour.
I am planning on using this dipping method for shading/highlighting but I am not entirely sure on that one. I will need to run some more tests before dedicating on army to it. Also the choice between dipping and dip brushing is something I need to think about. The way I see it now is that dipping has some dangers (too thick/model breaking of while spinning/etc) but if it works it yields great results!!! And after painting two armies the 'normal' way I am looking for something else!

As for the greenstuffing Off course the usual 'marks' will be on (like: uk.games-workshop.com/chaosspacemarines/cults/images/Npus6.jpg) but the thing I will try to make my army stand out with is rags and bandages. Image this deceased and rusty look of power armour covered (here and there) in dirty rags (bleached bone/brownish). Makes me think of those leprosy colonies you had in the old days, people falling apart (sort of) covered in filthy cloth (just for the example off course, the decease is absolutely aweful so plz no offense) Hope you know what i mean

As promised, my first update! Lucky number one was the plague champion!!!
(well actually he was second but the GS on plague marine number one is still hardening

So that is my first finished model Hope you like it. Im still not too sure whether or not to put on even more green stuff rags, cloth, and stuff. They need to look dirty and all but eventually they are still marines not clothmen.

indeed, death guard are pretty cool, but my allegiance lies wholly with Slaantch!
I did a chaos champion of Slaantch, and one thing I did was add a couple of areas affected by the techno virus with green stuff, like obliterators except more reserved...
On another note the Chaos Marine models are fantastic, can't wait to see them painted (mine were hacked to death to become loyalists...)

thanks guys! Indeed i was positively amazed by the CSM. They look really good, much better i must say than their loyalist counterparts. Today I finished yet another PM, this time with bits of bloated body parts.

I decided that i will also add some 'bloated' effects on some marines, which the normal metal plague marines also have, cause it looks good. So here is the first bloaty PM

Here is my fourth PM! Most special thing with this guy was his head which should represent a head drapped with cloth (perhaps to hide all the hideous pus infested sores or a half eaten away face...i dont know, let ur sick and twisted imagination run free here!)
Besides this I also sculpted a (lower) robe (which cant be seen to clearly from the photos) which I will also probably do with some of the other PMs. Because me likes He also has a big piece of cloth over his right shoulder. And off course the occasional bloated arm or leg.
