Rules question - indirect ordinance

So a big debate has come up and apparently i am wrong.

I always played that barrage ordinance (basilisk, whirlwind, etc) cannot move and shoot. This was because of the last paragraph under barrage as well as the ordnance vechile chart.

Well GW and my store owner told me im wrong. They said that they can move and shoot and those whole 2 pages only pertain to if a group of things fires like that (i.e. 2-3 whirlwinds in a group)

wow im confused, but i guess ill go along with it. If thats the case then they wrote that part of the rulebook horribly.

I am debating that Ordnance barrage weapons cannot move and shoot.

Proof of this is the paragraph on page 32 which states that an ordnance barrage weapon cannot be fired from a moving vechile.

Id also quote the chart on page 63 that states a stationary vehicle or walker can shoot an ordnance barrage weapon but one that has moved cannot.


GW states that an ordnance weapon may fire indirectly and move, and that the whole barrage section on pages 31 and 32 only pertain to barrages aka when a unit of more then one basilisk or whirlwind fires.

i find this problematic as i always assumed the barrage section meant any barrage or indirect weapon, especially since nowhere else in the book does it say how to fire a weapon indirectly.

As I read it ordinance Barrage is a type of fire from a gun - a single gun - thus something like a basalisck. It makes no refrence in any part to there being more than one tank.
As for ordinance weapons, the table shows that they may move and fire an ordinance shot - not a barrage ordinance shot.

So, GW is saying that the "barrage" portion of the rules only apply when multiple ordinance weapons fire as a "barrage"? And a single weapon listed as an ordinance barrage weapon only uses the barrage rules while firing as a group? Actualy this makes sense to me, if you accept the designation barrage to mean multiple shots. A basilisk fired alone fires as an ordinance weapon, 3 basilisks firing as a unit count as a barrage. I agree it is poorly written and confusing, and in my opinion does not state the interpretation you are getting.
But if they are saying they "meant" for the barrage rules to only cover a unit of multiple ordinance weapons firing, then they should FAQ it.
Common sense wise, the idea of a single tank firing while moving does not bother me at all, coordinating three pieces to land in the same are as a barrage would entail being stationary from a common sense perspective.

well i just called GW and they confirmed that indirect ordnance shots cant move and shoot. Guess ill have to wait till my store owner gets back from vacation and we can call GW together.

This could make sense, but it doesn't match the rules in the book.

There are 4 types of weapons affected.
Blast weapons (B Strangler)
Blast barrage weapons (Biovore)
Ordnance weapons (vindicator)
Ordnance barrage weapons (whirlwind)

these are 4 distinct types of weapons. In 40K lingo, barrage means it fires indirectly, a single biovore can fire indirectly, as can a single whirlwind.
Further, there is nothing in the rules that allow 3 whirlwinds to fire as a single multiple barrage.

The barrage rules all talk about a single shot barrage, on the next page there are additional rules for a multiple barrage. This makes no sense if the store owner is correct.
