got in touch with an old friend, the guy that got me started in 40k. we lol'd at the state of our half-painted shame-fest we call our armies. this is motivating me to stop screwing around and get my nids done, so i can get my CSM done in time for the summer and my inevitable disappointment at the new CSM codex (whenever it appears).

i got some bits and pieces in from hoard o' bits. took a week to come in, and while the parts are all in good shape and i got what i ordered, of the wing sets for my shrikes, i got two left wings on one of the 3 pairs. going to see if i can get an exchange.

here are my long suffering test model warriors posing with wings:







the wings are from WH fantasy vampire counts Vargheists/crypt horrors set, and are pretty much perfect right out of the box. i'll do some minor GS work to nid them up, but i don't think they need very much work at all.

i got the body/legs/tail/wings for the zombiedragon as well, to actually make a harpy (or three). i was nervous after the trygon incident, but the zzombiedragon is pretty much right on the money, size-wize, for what i'm looking for. it's a bit bigger and beefier than a ravenor, without being as big as my soon to be counts-as-harridan. i think it's about 7" long, with a wingspan of about 8-10". i'll post pics when i have it tac'd together.

they're primered, based, and base-coated. i just washed and am finishing the bases, then on to washing the gills and recesses, then claws and spine, cleanup, and final detail before the last wash.

ok so i picked up a pair of stormravens to proxy as storm eagles and use in my CSM counts as BA. INCOMMING RAPE, etc.

anyway, here is the evening's work (along with several slain beers):

I like the first set of wings more than the second. I assume you get a mix in the varg box?

yeah; was supposed to be 3 sets, but i got two sets and a pair of the same wing for my 3rd. all good.

I ordered two sets of these three wings and I got the same thing... One set looks great, the other has a weird bent right arm and the last set was two of the same arm. I started converting mine a little different though...

I see an easy fix, well not easy as it requires more work. But you could just twist the body and tail a bit. and get this evasion look to him, like he just dodged an attack. Just need to curve the tail away from the straight arm to get a quick easy effect. But they look very close to the forge world ones.

you gonna do the 'no legs' approach on your shrikes? i was never a fan of it but i've seen some decent conversions. for mine they're going to be pinned/magnetized for easy swaps between wars/shrikes, so the legless thing is pretty much out.

in other news, i'm picking up the lid for my vac chamber tonight. i can maybe have it finished and get some molds going this weekend. i've done little work lately (TERA open beta test, holy (please do not swear) that game is awesome, has eaten up my spare time), but i wanna get my storm ravens finished by this weekend; i'm thinking of taking my BA against my friend dave's orks.

then again, i'm thinking about taking my null deploy nids, too...

I am doing the Legless approach, but I'm thinking of using the Rending Claws for the bottom legs. I saw someone here do that and it looked pretty good when they're positioned correctly. I hate that the Right arm is so bent. It's so hard to position.

I'm experimenting with Genestealer rending claws, but I don't think that they are big enough.

The problem I'm really having is the scale of the Boneswords and Lash Whips. The Tyrant ones are massive compared to the body of the Warrior.

I'm thinking of using the Swarmlord's Bone Sabres and a Venomthrope to create 4 Pairs of LW/BS for my Shrikes. Maybe do a transplant of an arm/Bone Sabre. Using the Left Bone Sabres and the Right Lash Whips and vice versa...

This makes me wanna do my Shrikes. Thing is i like the splayed out wings but not the rounded edged ones if that makes sense. So i'll have to get several sets and re sell the ones i dont like...

I wonder if you can stick a rending claw on the pinion of the wing instead of the little fingery bits that are there now? Just wondering...then you can have legs.

If i was going to do rending claw legs i think id consider attaching the hand to a normal warrior leg, so it looks less like he walks on a pair of arms.

Whats everyones best shrike build? Its 50/50 between bs/lw and bs/bs i guess, but secondary? RC/ST/DS?? whats the verdict?

need a tap/die set to drill the lexan top to mount the pressure fittings. rest is complete, will take the lid to work on tuesday and finish this. incomming /facedesk rage as i get too ambitious with casting projects and mess up a lot of molds/waste a lot of silicone and money. wish me luck, long suffering bug watchers.

getting a ravener brood also, so move gribblies in the works as well.
