ok, hobby update:
cataphractii basic build is done. magenetized torsos and LC; and i have a project underway that will net me about 10 thunderhammers (see below). will need to source some SS though; my other project won't look right on the termy chassis (outside from my never ending proxy wars).
my cultists/scouts turned out beyond my expectations. very happy. i will take pics probably tomorrow. the scion kit is a great scout stand in, with minimal conversion needed, and comes with enough heads to salvage the old SM scout kit. i did a unit up with stalker pattern bolters, and that was a little fiddly but it turned out well.
i finally started putting my Bel'akor together. my red communist friends gave me a really (please do not swear) cast and it's been a serious project to get it together; had to buy a special dremmel attachment to clean up his wings. had to build a new sword from scratch, and the model requried serious gap filling and re-sculpting, but it's 85% or so done. needs minor repair of wings, and to finish the GS work on the sword. i may reposition his head as well, i think it's tilted kind of funny. you get what you pay for.
also built about 20ish of the puppets war flesh hounds, have 10 more to clean and assemble. gorgeous models.
i have an old metal huron blackheart i'm trying to get together, but, i want some JB Weld for it. the power claw has a separate blade for the thumb, and it's tiny and fiddly and i'm not going to risk gluing/GS it. too thin to pin.
so, next actual project i'm doing is a batch of models to either count as khorne chaos spawn or wulfen for my counts-as black legion/SM/SW/whatever. i am using the khorne wrathmonger/skullreaper and blood warriors kits, along with bits from the CSM possessed kit (particularly the backpacks, because they are *awesome*). i think it's going to work out pretty well; there are many analogous weapons between the kits (two handed axes, the shield punch daggers/mandau for SS) and i am taking the ridiculous chain whip flail hammers and cutting them down, using the hammer heads and some brass rod as thunderhammers. my only concern is that i need to be able to magnetize the lot; the wulfen are going to need a variable load out. pretty sure i can get 15 usable models out of this mess.
on a side note, it's really baffling how GW can advertise pics that make these kits look bad. they are completely amazeballs, i don't get it. some of the most detailed plastic kits ever. i think it's their cartoony paint scheme?
i am looking into getting some varanguard to use as TWC, because those are crazy beautiful models but the price is hard to deal with. my FLGS has them for $65 a box, which is half GW's retail but still puts them at over $20 a model. painful. looking into online retailers.
no nids on the block, *unless* the GSC rules turn out to be useful then i'll be getting that damn mess too! but at this point, i have so much on the build list it's not even funny.
