Finally! The Rock has come back...

I love pro wrestling. I really do. I love the theater of it all, the showmanship and the totally ridiculous script writing. I have been a huge fan for over 20 years, so I remember The Rock from before he went off to try and conquer Hollywood.

Years have passed, and I'll be honest with you, I never really missed Mr Johnson. As far as wrestling goes, I have never been one to want old knackered wrestlers to return (such as my hero Mick Foley... enough already, you can hardly walk never mind wrestle!!).

The Dwayne returned a couple of weeks ago and did some pretty good Mic work. Then this week there was a pre recorded video showing 10 minutes of utterly brilliant work. Seriously BRILLIANT promo that suddenly made me realize that there has been a serious lack of a decent promo guy in wrestling for the past 8 years. I hate Cena as a wrestler, but his Mic work as always seemed smooth and entertaining. But he really does look like an Indie amateur compared to the Rock.

Which started me wondering... When did wrestling lose all of its great talkers?

When Vince McMahon realised having his daughter nationally reviled through television, having a wrestler whos gimmick was having Down Syndrome and hating on French and Canadians all in the name of profit still wasn't low enough.

I've never considered myself a huge fan of wrestling but, when I was younger I'd often watch the odd fight. I knew it was staged but, as you said, it's the melodrama that has the biggest appeal.
But even I started noticing the WWF's(WWE's?) downward spiral when it happened.

After the Eugene fiasco I just gave up on it all together. Classy, Vince. Classy...

But who knows? Maybe it's changed since then. Is Vince McMahon even in charge anymore?

He is still the top man, but it is wildly recognized that it's Triple H (who is married to Steph Mcmahon) who calls the shows from the Gorilla Position and that Vince isn't at every taping anymore.
