I did not enjoy the first halo, my first sentance was based on my experiance of all the halo games (appart from the RTS one, its name escapes me, because neither of my 360 owning friends bought it, saying "its just isnt halo" which leads me to belive I might like it) however I didnt have low expectations of halo, but it dissapointed me all the same, I knew the second game would be horrific as the 2nd games are in the majority of series, if they make it to a third game it will then be awesome as the developers make the mistakes on the 2nd game, learn from their mistakes and build on what they had originally, halo 3 somehow found a way of avoiding this rule of thumb. I knew I wouldent like ODST as everyone told me "no, this is going to be a halo even you will like!" which is what id been told of 2 and 3.... The jumping between past and present then completly killed off anything it did have going for it.
In responce to an earlier post (something about no middle ground for halo) its because halo is generally a logo for casual gamers whilst proper gamers (no offence meant to halo fans) see it as a joke which fails as a game accross the board. Appart from graphics, but that dosent diffine a good game, I should admit though that I do like some of the character and vehicle design.
Oops, hate rant. I will deny and claim proffesional review of a entire series.

To be honest you really shouldn't have any high expectations of any FPS game. It's really hard to be original and make a casual game in that genre. Original more so.
When I first played Halo (CE) I continued because of my usual drive to finish everything I start, as long as I start it. Then because I liked the story. After that, when Halo 2 came out I played for the story, but it sucked so I continued for the value of casual fun of playing games with my dad. Halo 3 was just for, hell I don't know. It had cool graphics which got my dad, and a better campaign (albeit short) which got me. ODST I played once, after concluding that forgetting your objective, deciding to go 'BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD' with your pal and beating the (please do not swear) out of everything without shooting shouldn't be possible on Legendary I never bought it, and never told my dad of it. (He'd buy it, lol)
Reach I have no standing point on yet. But I play games for the campaign mostly, hence why I only play CoD if people ask me, or if it's 1&2.
Cheers!

Go into this game with no preconceptions, and you will find a finely crafted experience on all fronts.
(P.S.: Except the horsepoo Starfighting on Legendary...)

Brilliant fun with a group of friends too, I had 3 friends around and we all had a blast playing online. More games should take note that 4 player splitscreen will always be a success, especially if you can all go online. Call of Duty really disappointed me because you could only play 4 player splitscreen without bots and offline.

Well, I bought it... time for a amateur review!
CAMPAIGN
The story is stuffed full of half-amusing set pieces and the plot only enters into the picture on the second last mission. Did I give a (please do not swear) about any of it? Nope, 'cept one likable characters death. Seriously, every character bar that one is just an arsehole and/or annoying to watch. And that one is only likable because he's ridiculously naive (in a nice way) rather than annoying. The journal that comes with the limited edition is almost required to understand the plot as anything else other than pointless coincidences, but it’s no Dead Space animated comic.
Set pieces, whilst not up to par with more cinematic experiences, are still enjoyable and arrive several times each level. Unlike previous Halo titles there's no one (please do not swear) level that stands out, which is as good as it is surprising.
Bungie has a funny relationship with their AI. The enemy AI in Reach is great for the most part, carried by the ridiculous agility of the Elites (some of which are tougher than the Human Controlled Elites online). Everything is more accurate as well, which means that fodder enemies become viable threats on the higher difficulties. On the other hand occasionally an enemy will stand still until you take down their shield or shoot half a clip into them, something made all the more noticeable when you've just slogged through some tough opponents.
Ally AI has always been (please do not swear), but Reach takes this to new levels. AI will drive you directly into grenades, stop in front a guy with a plasma launcher to execute a 48-point turn and a marine, in one instance, splattered me without a vehicle when he went into his cover animation. I prefer my allies dead... and that's not a good thing.
The campaign boasts very solid gameplay but a storyline that's only marginally better than what I understood of the (please do not swear) heap ODST.
MULTIPLAYER
Ah, the reason you buy Halo. Reach has, quite possibly, the best Halo multiplayer yet. Pointless weapons have been removed or given a tactical boost so that they fill in niches not taken by any other weapon (such as the scoped pistol making a return as a worthy sidearm and the plasma pistol gaining speed and power increases). A lot of the new weapons are inconsequential, the plasma launcher being far too laboured to be reliable and the Focus rifle being a nerfed sentinel beam with a scope. The DMR is worth a mention as it has replaced the overpowered Battle Rifle and succeeds in making mid to long range combat far more balanced than before.
Multiplayer balance is interesting. I’ve seen a mere handful of games play out like your typical Halo 2 or 3 match. It seems you’re team will lose/win horribly (I’m talking 50-21 and the like) or the game will be so close that the luck of the spawn decides the winning kill. I guess Bungie have balanced the game to an almost completely even playing field where those relying on marksmanship will have to play far smarter to consistently and decisively beat those less gifted. Of course maps such as the new Blood Gulch are exceptions, with the scorpion (free of any snares and ambush positions) easily netting +50 kill death spreads and allowing near total domination of every aspect of the map. Lose the tank, lose the game… provided the enemy has a couple of brain cells between their ears. Also, teamwork works better thanks to the levelling of the skill gap. If you can rustle up some friends or get talking with your team mates you’ll reap the rewards of supportive play.
Armour abilities are great. Forget perks and passive upgrades, you’re armour abilities require you to think to utilise them. While the drop shield can be cheap as chips and the hologram offers no real direct benefit the rest are beautifully realised and balanced. Sprint provides the typical speed boost of other first person shooters but Reach sees it being used to evade danger and launch lightning offences with equal measure. Invisibility offers survivability and the potential to trap those who fail to note the jammer warning. Jetpacks are fun and allow easy travel among levels (nearly all with a great sense of verticality) but leave you very exposed to anyone who can draw line of sight.
The maps are pretty good with all being loved and hated depending on personal preference. Some game types don’t work very well on certain maps (such as most maps offering a clear “best spot” to camp in infection) but the map always plays second fiddle to the player’s ingenuity.
Firefight… dare I say it… I liked it better in ODST. I loathed ODST but it offered a variety of firefight maps, with my preference going to the smaller, close quarters areas. Reach offers nothing but open maps, with the smallest still being huge and open. Sure, you can get headshots and find firing lines easier and CC in Reach isn’t a powerful crutch as it was in previous games, but it’s not as visceral as it was in ODST. You’re either ripping it up, or you’re dead.
FORGE
Vastly improved but still fiddly and somewhat restricted. It’s difficult to make maps, and if you lack the patience and thinking to do so the new tools won’t make life any easier. However, quality (or, at least, fun) forge maps popped up at an alarming rate with the terrible Halo 3 tools and the time reduction Reach brings will ensure that you’ll enjoy this feature whether you use it or not.
On the whole, the most impressive Halo. Bungie got off their asses to craft a quality experience that leaves all the previous Halo’s for dead. If you thought Halo was stagnating when three came out, Reach’s excellent multiplayer and enjoyable campaign boast enough new features to make the last (real) Halo a definite pickup for the discerning gamer.

Sounds like the review I would give it. I think I know which character you found likable, I think I thought the same of said character.
It is definitely the best multiplayer though. I don't think you should disregard Hologram too quickly, I've seen it used as a bullet shield in a surprise offensive, a dummy hiding around corners as though it's a player aiming at a target, even hologram's running through corridors make a very good distraction and fool a lot of people who may have recently seen an enemy and be a little jumpy.
My favorite personally is the optic camo. If you're being chased, find a corner and stealth behind it, you're just about guaranteed to get the first hit of the encounter. I've found armor lock to be a good OSHI- button and the jetpack and sprint to be a good maneuverability boost. Nothing seems out of place except the drop shield which seems like the most noob friendly of the lot, allowing quick retreat from battle or the blocking of corridors to escape from crossfire.

Both are acceptable. There are the actual major league gamers (a number that is probably about 1000 or so worldwide) then you have the millions of whiny impressionable kids who think they're MLG simply because they spend a stupid amount of time playing games and use a control sceme that the actual MLG's favour.
Meet one from the latter category... and lol your (please do not swear) head off. It's like... they troll themselves.

Other than that a full description would be nice. Meet one from the latter category... and lol your (please do not swear) head off. It's like... they troll themselves. I don't know if I've meet these people, but I've had some wonderful moments regarding people who think they're awesome at something, until you join and ruin their whole view of life. I snatched a banshee from some idiot flying low-ground trying to splatter me on Halo 3 once, first I heard a small kid starting to scream about it and shouting various swears at me, then I went and got 5/0 killstreak within 5 minutes. More shouting ensued. Cheers!
