I'm the president and sole "owner" of my gaming club in Colorado. 70+ paid members, 52 of them on our forum. I'm well known by most of them, I know 40k like the back of my hand, and I'm pretty good at the game. I also started the club up from basically scratch (there were no attendees when I started it).
GG: There's a group of 4-5 20-somethings that have been playing at our LGS for over a decade. They have paid club dues with other clubs without question for years, and are considered "regulars" and minorly "trustworthy" by the Owner. They are all a$$holes and are not only overly racist and loud and obnoxious every week, but they have even prevented several customers from returning to the store. Problem is, they continuously cease the behavior before it gets them kicked out, but they just start back up after things have "mulled over".
Now the dilema: A few months ago, I was called in for a surprise "meeting" at my LGS by this group after I made it Club Policy that you must be a paid member to have access to our Club's terrain (the store lets clubs keep locked terrain cabinets there for free). This is NOT something new, but I was re-enforcing the rule because we had some issues with stuff going missing.
At this meeting, they told me that they had almost just stolen all of the terrain before I arrived, and that instead they wanted to give me the chance to "explain my actions". They said, "you will never keep us out of the cabinets or off of that terrain". They continued, "the terrain is all of ours, and doesn't belong to any one person or club, as we have payed club dues for over a decade". I explained that I had payed too, but that I still pay club dues and expect people to as well or face the consequences to which they replied "well we feel we don't need to pay club dues anymore, as we're basically the elders now, so challenge us and find out what happens to the terrain". (This is after most of the older crowd moved or stopped playing in the last few years).
So, to try and calm things down a bit, I asked them for their participation in making the club a better one, with more events and participation at local cons. They agreed and I made them Officers. Since then, (it has been about 3 months), not only did they all drop out of our Team Tournament that I hosted, but they haven't set foot back in the store. I just recently dropped them all as officers on the forum (which only two of the five of them frequent) and took their ability away to moderate or view anything admin-related.
Now, since they hadn't shown their faces in over a few months because they decided to get back into WoW and refused to answer texts or emails, I figured they finally died or something cool like that, but unfortunately in the last week, all of them have stopped in and checked things out. I wasn't unfriendly (I am typically a really nice guy even in the face of adversity) but I was disappointed they were still around.
I've got a STRONG feeling that they may be returning to the scene after a "busy" summer of WoW, so I'm completely at a loss of what to do about them. I don't want them to walk off with buckets full of brilliantly made terrain that hundreds of people have paid for (not including them) because of a stupid disagreement, but they're definitely not welcome back as far as I'm concerned (though I can't do anything to stop it, as again, some of them are "trusted" by the owner).
DRAMA! DILEMAS! BULLSH!T! I don't know what to do!
