Here there be dragons... (trygon & swarmlord)

Been playing 40k on and off since rogue trader days. Typically Black Templars and Tau are my projects of choice but the new Nids stuff had me drooling and figured I'd slap together a small army and already had a bunch of stealers from space hulk.

Anyways here's my Trygon, just about done about 18-20 hours of work total. The shading on the red and the carapace doesn't photograph very well.

Undecided beasty I started on earlier tonight, carnifex that's been modified to stand upright. Cut the legs apart and pinned them to give height. I plan on adding greenstuff to the legs and torso tomorrow. Not sure what model I want this to be just yet but I knew I wanted something big, and it towers over the standard hive tyrant.

Could easily be an oversized tyrant, swarmlord, etc. I have a pair of balrog wings but they still look absolutely huge even on a model this big. Might play with some more trygon parts.

The trygon head piece I'm not sure if I want to keep or not, it'll be mounted much more flush with the rest of the head, at the moment it's held on with sticky-tac while I think about the look.

Your scheme on the trygons pretty cool, attacking a desert planet are we?
The lictor-stealer looks great, but it might look a bit undersized if you play it alongside normal lictors (but yours looks more aggressive so it'll put them to shame)
That converted carnifex just has to be the swarmlord dude, think how intimating that would look, especially if you gave it oversized boneswords to match the extra height!

As darkstar said, that has to be made into a swarmlord. Lots of intimidation potential!

I also dig the stealer conversion, a very clever use of bits!

Oh, and I appreciate the effort with the background on your trygon pics too. Makes it a lot easier to see the model without lasts nights pizza boxes in the background!

That's one hell of a Trygon. And you're not entering the paint-contest because? . . . =P

You conversions are pretty sick. I like how you mounted the carnifex torso, I was gonna do the same once, but use the awkward angle to make its tail curl out in front of it, mount some legs and guns *drools* would have been sick.

Definitely keep up the good work man ^ ^!

I love the paint on the trygon prime. Are you gonna use greenstuff to blend the trygon top to the carnifex head? If not, I'd say remove it.

The head will definately be blended together much better. I'll be cutting off the top of the fex's head so that the trygon's armor plate sits flush.

I may enter the trygonin the painting contest, wasn't aware it was going on. Needs a bit more work to finish him off but he's very close to done.

The genestealer I think will become the standard design for the brood. That way it'll look like the lictors are the broodlords/broodmothers as they'll have a more shared appearance.

As for the background I find the weird array of things people photograph against to be one of my biggest pet peeves. Seriously how hard is it to put a piece of paper behind the model? I get so annoyed seeing computer monitors, books, boxes, etc in the background and it's very distracting when you're trying to focus in on the model. I use a gradiant image I found downloadable online for free and printed it out, nice and clean also helps the camera process the models colors a bit better too.

A really big bug needs a really big sword....

I'm thinking large swords for the upper pair and a slightly smaller set for the secondary arms.

Looks great! Nice clean color scheme too.

Especially love the look of the bonesword. I'm guessing its carved plasti-card, but I'm not sure as it's so smooth.

That sword is awesome, as is everything else I have seen. Your painting is okay but this is a converting thread so no reason for me to talk about that.
the thing I love is that stealer! the idea is pure genius... so genius in fact, I might need to borrow the idea, if it is okay with you?

Edit:

Did some work on the head to make the trygon crown fit more flushly and started the large spine. Just noticed it's ever so slightly off center so I'll be fixing that shortly.

The bicep area of the sword arm looks a little um? palsied.Everything I've seen other than that is pretty freakin win!How'd you make the lictor scyth for the yealer?

Left over spines from the mawloc make up the long part of the arms and spikes from the mawloc bits are the claws. Mounted on guant knifehand arms.

Good suggestion on the upper arms they are a bit thin. I'd been planning on adding a muscle coil simular to the tyrants elbow joint but the arm can definately use a bit of widening and bulking up.

Still a bit iffy about that head carapace, might change opinion once the gaps are filled etc, but at the moment it looks a bit plate on the head. Love the Tyrant head scyth though, that thing looks bad-ass.
Other than, the body of the tyrant looks a little thin, do you plan to extend the carapace around a little further or bulk him out a little more in the torso? Could also make the midsection a little short to help this, or is it simply a photo perspective thing?

Otherwise, great work.
