Jungle Tyranids (what colors)

Hey, i was just discussing with Aux what colors i was going to use on my jungle themed nids (he thinks my colors are weird). My idea was to make them look kind of like trees on the world they inhabit (trees have brown bark, green leaves with yellow stripes and fruit). So the skin would be brown, carapace green with yellow stripes (like the scheme of white and red carapace in the 3rd edition tyranids book) not dozens of stripes). The spiny bits, eyes, talons, and guns will be yellow.

What do you think and what are your ideas of making my army look junglish.

I could just put a tree on all their backs but then they would look like venusaur (grass pokemon)!

Seems like that scheme would work well for jungle themed Tyranids. Test it on a few Gaunts so you can see. I've had ideas for color schemes that looked great in my head but reality proved to be completely different matter entirely.

Have you considered a scheme something akin to Tiger stripes? I can tell you from first hand experience that a Tiger in the dappled light of foliage and undergrowth is very difficult to see. In fact I was less than five feet from one and I didn't know it was there until it moved.

i actually was doing alot of test schemes, and i painted a very similiar scheme. i'll post up some pics when i have a few minutes of free time. but that scheme sounds like it could look really cool.

I dont have any pics but I did a pretty cool forest scheme. If you have access to a woodelves codex (warhammer fantasy) use the method of painting treemen (the non-rough bark) for the skin, and their method of painting green leaves for the carapace, looks very camouflage-ish. Another cool thing would be to do different colored carapaces to make it look like the gaunts were a swarm of colorful leaves falling off a giant galaxy-devouring tree!

Don't make the guns different from the skin. They are bio-organisms and thus, more of a "one-with-the-monster" kind of thing.

i found it! here's a little something i painted up in a few minutes a couple of weeks ago. the brown could be darker, and you could apply a streaking method to the skin to give it that tree look. also putting pale yellow dots on the carapace might look cool.

In general you should use black as jungles tend do be dark. "The Predator" is a good movie to watch for ideas on how jungle looks (at least for those who have never been there).

May i suggest a search on the net, the jungles are full of colourful animals like frogs, insekts and snakes, even birds might give you some insperation.
So that whould be my advice.

Actually, when I saw the title of this thread, it reminded me of a possible jungle 'nid scheme. Here it is divided up into the three major portions of the 'nids' anatomy:

Exoskeleton (the 'nid's "skin"): a normal, maybe kind of light green
Carapace (the armor ridges): a really dark green, almost black, possibly with a tiger-stripes pattern of a different color
Muscle (all the bio stuff): a dark shade of red

Also, the claws, like on scything talons, would be red. I got the idea from 'creeper' vines (a general term I use for any hostile vines in sci-fi), and generally any kind of plant that's green with menacing red thorns

Anyway, yeah, your scheme sounds pretty cool, too, and thanks for the reminder!

For a jungle theme, I'd say take a look at Jungle snakes and other critters from those areas. Real life can be a wonderful inspiration:
