I'm not sure if people are interested but I will attempt to describe a type of RP that I've seen done elsewhere.
A Duel is, well, a Duel between two characters, as one might expect.
One could imagine a space marine walking up down a dusty road when a ravener come bursting out of the ground or something of that like and the two fighting it out.
It would seem clear that in order to role play such a scenario one person should play the marine and one should play the ravener.
These two players would then take turns describing the ensuing battle in alternating posts. For example a rather boring battle could look like this
Post 1 Player:Ravener
The beast springs out of the ground lashing out at the marines head
Post 2 Player:Marine
The marine instinctively blocks the bladed arm with his gun and attempts to heave his shoulder into the beast.
The battle would go on for another couple of posts, maybe 3 more each for a total of 6, and then conclude. The goal of a duel is not simply beat the other character but to out class the other duelist though flawless posting, grammar and spelling, and while providing an interesting read.
There are two styles of dueling of interest
'True' Dueling involves an alternating post sequence where an attack is described in a post and then the other person describes the results. The small example is of a true duel where the marine got to block the attack. These fights trend to have the most realistic feel to them.
'Cheese' Dueling involves alternating posts where both the attack and result is described by the same person. In the example the ravener player could say "the beast springs up from the ground and with a flick of its tail cuts the marines arm off". These fights trend to break down into ridiculous scenarios.
Both can be equally enjoyable and are certainly not bound to their trends.
Usually the person to go first describes the scenery. Both players pick their character when they start. Posting is usually done on a daily basis so its manageable without being too slow. Unlike my short example posts usually consist of about 2 paragraphs one to describe the results of the attack launched and a second to describe the counter attack.
I hope this explanation is understandable and I'll certainly add or clarify as/if people have questions. And if some one is interested I would certainly be up for doing a 'demo' duel.
