A thought occured to me for how you might make it more nurgly and horrific. Resculpt the eyelids on the giant faces so they appear to be sewn shut with the pent up liquid behind them seeping out and running down the faces, maybe even some fishing line spurts jetting out of holes in the skins would be a nice touch. Nails tacking the lips of the faces tight around the spouts would also be in keeping with the visual theme here.

The pins that are in the sides of the flesh of the faces (bolting it onto the wood) are going to be painted as giant nails with blood (or pus - undecided) comming from the flesh.

Mmm... the eyes idea is interesting... but I was planning on the eyes being pretty putrid anyways.... And them being closed might give the idea that it is being crewed, when inface it is sentient itself and the other demons are just living off it (mmm parisitic)
