Making a Magnetic Monstrous Creature (Finished pic

I did my magnets before painting, the paint does not affect the magnest ability to hold at all. Also just a tip, i used a drimel with a drill size (1/8) that was the exact same size as my magnets, it worked very well. I have also found it is best to convert the two armed weapons (venom cannon, barbed strangler) to have both arms on the same side. Someone did a wonderful link to a conversion somewhere on these pages. This seems to hold the arms up much better, as well as clear up the front of your fex where all the detail is. Personaly i hate the way the wrap around feed arms can obscure your fex that way, especially if it is hunched over like one of my neanderthal fex's. Do you know where that conversion is, cause I have posted a Fex on Ebay that I magnetized and I am always looking for new ways to do things. -Edit- Hope that reads better-Edit-

Omg! Thank you so much for posting this! I am a new player, and when I found out that you had to glue the biomorphs and that they were permanent, I freaked out and thought I might come up with a useless biomorph. I was just about to post a call for a guide for a magnetic carnifex. This is really helpful, thanks.

I am unsure if HiveLord is still here, but if so, I'd like to use this guide in the Ultimate Tyranid Codex Thingy. Also, not to bash Hivelord's Paint skillz, but if someone can get better pics to replace the ones in the post, that'd be great!

Hey all Nice to see you guys are still finding this useful Yeah, you can post this on other forums, but please give credit where it is due Terminus - Sure, would be an honour. Yeah, I hadn't had much experience with painting back then, so it was all a little experimental. I might have some time to tidy up the paintjob and take some better photos this summer, although I wouldn't count on it

OMG this is just perfect for me! i'm only just starting a tyranid force (only have 1 fex, half made, but i can undo what i have dont to an extent for magnet implants really great stuff, but i also think that the 1/8" x 1/16" magnets are better. much smaller, and probably less likely to break off the model because they are less powerful. thanks mate! definately using this on all my big guys!

Glad you found it useful!
Yeah, I'm sure you're right about smaller magnets - I guess however small they are it's going to be strong enough to hold the arms up.
Of course, if you did this with a metal model eg a HT, you'd need larger ones, I'd suppose, due to the extra weight...

Yeah. smaller does mean weaker. I'm going to do my carnifex with a man in his scything tallons. im worried that i wont hold up because I've actually EXTENDED the arm allready. Ah well, hopefully it'll work out.

Try getting a PMMA/plexi sculpting tool at your nearest hobby store and you wont have these problems. Still, no worries?

I got sick of the magnet thing fast and now I just glue over them and make additional models for different roles. It was novel at first, but meh.

HiveLord, I love this thread! This was just what I needed for my Fexes and Flyrant. I only use Sniperfexes and Dakkafexes, but this saved me from buying more fexes (since I will only ever use the 2 I have). It also helped for storing my Tyrant since I couldn't have his wings up before, but now I can.
Click my sig and check 'em out.

I understand the guide at the beginning but Im confused about what other people have said. I am hoping to magnetize my carnifex and hive tyrant. Should I use small magnets that other people thought were good or the ones hive lord used in his guide? Thanks
