All,
I am considering starting to collect (I've followed 40k for a long time having briefly flirted with collecting way way back in 3.5e). 'Nids have always been my darling, and as a part of considering starting a collection, I wanted to ask for thoughts from more experienced players as to my current provisional list. For simplicity I have separated it into its two detachments, the former of which would start on the board and the latter would arrive through various methods of deep strike.
I would appreciate advice as to what does and doesn't work well in practice. My current aim is simply to drop multiple significant threats in key locations in one chunk, forcing difficult decisions from the enemy and (ideally) landing charges on key targets. The list is light on ranged power, but has some anti-tank/anti-monster capacity in the Hive Guard.
My current thinking - the Tervigon/Devilgaunt set seems rather expensive on the whole, even if the 10-gaunt regenerating cluster gives it some staying power. I'm also not sure about the Raveners - Spinefist Raveners seem very strong, but their primary job seems to be to shred lightly armoured infantry, which the rest of the list already seems to do pretty well. Also not sure on the warlord trait.
Detachment 1 (Patrol) - Kraken
HQ - Neurothrope w/ Onslaught - Warlord (Synaptic Lynchpin trait) - 70
Troops - 30 Hormagaunts - 150
Troops - 30 Hormagaunts - 150
Troops - 30 Hormagaunts - 150
Elite - 6x Hive Guard - 108
Heavy Support - 3x Biovores - 108
Heavy Support - 3x Biovores - 108
Cost - 844
Detachment 2 (Patrol) - Kraken
HQ - Tervigon w/ Chameleonic Mutation, The Horror - 225
Transport - Tyrannocyte w/ Barbed Stranglers - 148
Troops - 30 Termagants, 20 w/ Devourer - 200
Troops - 20 Genestealers w/ Scything Talons, 5 w/ Acid Maw, 3 w/ Flesh Hooks - 206
Fast Attack - 5 Raveners w/ Spinefists - 120
Heavy Support - Trygon w/ Adrenal Glands - 113
Heavy Support - Trygon Prime w/ Adrenal Glands - 143
Cost - 1155
Total army cost - 1999
Note - the Tervigon is intended to DS via Tyrannocyte, arriving behind the Trygon (which brings the Termagants with it). The Trygon Prime will DS in another location, bringing with it the Stealers. The Raveners can either deploy to support one of those two groups, or in a third location.
Any constructive comments welcomed.
