Basic Synapse and Cad question.

Recently I played a game where I used two equal points valued lists against 2 players in a 1v2 game. Our group thinks this helps keep a balanced feel to our games. My problem came when I was told a synapse creature from 1 list could not give the synapse fearless rule to a creature in the other list. Synapse says it effects friendly tyranid codex models. I guess my question would be why would the list split matter if it's a rule that effects models of the codex?

Umm, do you mean you ran 2 CADs? That is totally fine, and your opponents are being stupid if they're not letting you benefit from synapse - it says friendly codex models. They're codex models, they're BB (so benefit from all special rules) etc. They benefit from synapse, they benefit from shrouded, they benefit from psychic powers and if you take a prime, he can join whatever he wants.

RAW, there's absolutely no ambiguity. You've taken 2 detachments, they're BB and same codex, the special rules don't specify a specific detachment etc - everything benefits regardless of detachment.

If your group is house ruling it as 2 totally separate CADs that have nothing to do with each other and don't benefit from special rules or whatever...well, that's both a. a silly house rule and would b. mean they can't join ICs or do anything either.

Yeah there is no reason your synapse creatures do not bestow their benefits across your entire list. Hell even if you were playing as a two-headed giant I still dont see why you cant bestow your synapse on your teammates models. 

In general non-Nid players never know (please do not swear) about our army and have no say in how they work.

As usual, non Tyranid players have no idea how Tyranids play. Learn your codex well and say it with confidence, I doubt you'll be seriously challenged even if you are wrong. Our last codex I played an extra attack for 2 weapons for the entire codex (I somehow missed that 'nids didn't get them) and I never got challenged on it even once. Not even in tournament play. Say it with conviction and you'll be fine.

Okay so this is a question.

Are they allowed to use battle brothers? Like are the opponents able to buff eachother and the like against you? Or do you force all opponents to be allies of convenience?

Because if they ARE allowed to buff eachother/use a true allies matrix, they have no leg to stand on.

If they make all armies allies of convenience or whatever, then I can understand their gripe. That ceases being 2 lists vs 2 list and becomes a big list vs 2 small lists which can have odd interactions in game scaling in my opinion.
