Thoughts on Horus heresy GW box set November

Hey everyone, what do you think about the upcoming Horus heresy box set coming out November.
From rumours and photos it looks ok and could be good to start a 30k army....also says to not be a limited release.

Are there Tyranids in it? If not, I'm not interested.

Word from my friends is that they are glad it turned out to be a Space Hulk-esque board game so they don't have to yearn for it.

I cant wait for this, $150 for roughly twice that in FW models. My Night Lords need reinforcements.

It's only a deal if you play power marines of some sort. I thought heresy backpacks were different. Looking at the pics out so far, they don't look so different to me. Anyway, anything that grows the hobby is ok by me.

The box set does look decent with the plastic MKIV Maximus armour marines....
Did not on forge world they don't sell the MKIV Maximus resin version anymore...but have Legion MKIV Maximus armour?
Can anyone tell me what's the difference between MKIV Maximus armour and Legion MKIV maximus armour??

I'm actually super excited for this. I've been saying that if 40k continues on this huge power spike, I plan on joining the 30k guys, and this pack would be insane to start a Heresy era army.

Totally the same reason tylertt, add in a few extra forge world units and you have a sweet 30k legion army. I am thinking of alpha legion BUT there is others I am tempted at ultramarine shield looking guys omg cool.
What legion are you thinking?

What legion are you thinking?

I was unsure of what legion I was into until I read Know No Fear. I have always liked the Ultramarines and after reading that book and Damnos, I knew they were the legion for me.

Now for traitor legions, I would have a hard time choosing between Night Lords, or the World Eaters. I somewhat like Word Bearers, but it was really only due to A-DB's character Argel Tal in First Heretic & Betrayal. Argel Tal is by far one of my favorite characters in 30k, and even Kharn was extremely likable. I also really enjoy how ruthless and tragic Curze and his legion are.

speaking for the traitor legions here is the basic run-down of some of those legions.

Night Lords- (legion that I play so a bit more detail on this) some fun abilities like almost all of your stuff causing fear and army wide night vision coupled with the ability to make it night fighting on the first 3 turns of the game and a natural 6+ cover save on the first turn of the game can make them very hard to kill. Terror squads can be taken as troops and can infiltrate. THe nostraman chainglaive is a fun bit of wargear (+1S and Ap3). Some drawbacks are if the warlord dies each squad needs to make a morale check and falling back +1".


Word Bearers- the word bearers are closer to 40k chaos marines with a reliance of chaos powers and daemonic entities. not counting the thousand sons (rules for which are not released yet) they are the most psychic army in the game.

World Eaters- Close Combat Monsters, not a whole lot to say. If they get into CC you are screwed.

Alpha legion-has the ability to control the battlefield with ways to mess with your opponent's reserve rolls. Difficult to play but can have some really good builds.

Ultramarines- 2+ saves, 2+ saves everywhere with a lot of master crafted goodness. Has the sense of an army of elites but fairly vanilla when it comes to special rules.

Awesome, thanks for the info. The one thing I am out of the loop on is the exact rules and bonuses for each legion, so sometimes I am worried the fluff I read in the novels may skew my choices towards one legion or the other aha.

I really want to get some of the HH rulebooks, but they are just so dang expensive. But they are worth every bit from what I hear (quality wise and all), and I'd love to read all the fluff in each one. Regardless of starting 30k or not, I do plan on collecting each one some day.

I also really want to paint a Primarch. That will be a true test of my skills, and would make for an absolute beauty in the display case.

i never liked space marine and it won't change with HH
and a game where everyone has a 3+ save or 2+ for the (please do not swear)*** ultramarines (even if in w40k it's almost the same problem now...), 

i stay on 40k with my nids, necron and tau
