Malecepter and deathleaper formation combo.

It's a focused witch fire so it can blast command units out of the crowd. The malecepter can do it three times a round. The deathleaper formation gives -1 leadership in 6 12" bubbles. The deathleaper gives -3 to its target. I feel like that combo could be decent. More so if the pen stacks for each lictor. D3 wounds a failed test. Seems like a decent combo with the malecepter giving synapse.

The challenge that I see is the Maleceptor having to manifest a Warp Charge 2 power, and then rolling to hit with his BS 3 (since it's a Witchfire)... It's good that you're trying to come up with combos. Let us know how it works out for you.

Well if they ever get around to fixing units and making formations that actually matter I would love that. I see Shiney toys and get closer to find out it was tin foil. Then get disapointed.

I get what your saying but in my opinion a better combo is psychic scream, horror, leach life, all of which work even better when used against unit with a psychic commander, as even though shadows of the warp is now weak, it adds an additional - 3 to that already dangerously low LD (plus more reliable than the -3 from DL, I usually get -1), forget the maleceptor, just pile in lots of nerothrope groups and other psychic users. i'm going to attempt putting my thropes in a drop pod so they can DS with 2 mawlocs and Revener, possibly even Red Terror (gives synapse and gets them close for their shadows/ lances) combine that as you said with the DL formation, and you have a very big turn 2 threat

The Red Terror does not have Synapse, is what it looks like your implying. All of the zoanthrope/neuro have that covered, but it looked like you credit old Red with it.

You should also either adds Swarmlord or similar (Aegis Defense Line or Bastion - with Comms Relay) for the +1 to Reserves. Gotta make sure that happens. Also, any extra points and you could throw in some Spore Mine Clusters to eat Overwatch or corral.

The Red Terror does not have Synapse, is what it looks like your implying. All of the zoanthrope/neuro have that covered, but it looked like you credit old Red with it.

lol ye, apologies red terror was just there to bolster the DS with the Mawlocs, the synapse was directed at the thropes (plus i'm one for always trying a model others rarely use, even just once) the comms relay already have covered (trying to 'tyranidify' it with some insulating foam, with hot glue gun, eggs sacs looks) would have added swarmlord too (love him) but unfortunately I've come to accept the overwhelming conclusion he is just too expensive, and not fast enough to be really useful (and unfortunately the comms relay does NOT give +1 reserves... I thought that too at first, it instead allows you to re roll the reserves dice, pass or fail, both good AND bad in a way) 

but back to deathleaper, using this general idea shadows alongside lots of DS reserves could be the way for us to go. makes me think of the hive mind clouding the enemies senses with the shadow, while the DS reserves get into position without being detected, just like the fluff.

160pts... if GW fixed the rules for the thing, may be. As it is even a price drop can't save it, it is in dire need of a whole rewrite, great model abysmal rules.

What about a 6+ armor save and a 3+ invun save? Instead of the current ones as well as ajust the spells rules.

140 pts, turn it's focused witchfire down to WC 1 , give it BS 4 (as our other psykers do) ,give it shooting weapon options AND a better formation than the neural node (ie blatant +1 to the psychic tests rather than reroll 1's. Then I MIGHT see some use for it. It is really, really, really, really bad.

Maleceptor is one of those (please do not swear) deals, sweet model with (please do not swear) rules and cost. 160pt is not nearly enough of an incentive. If 140 or so like topaxygourouni says, along with that soooo much needed BS 4, all the other things mentioned, and yeah, rule of cool would win for me. In it's current form, not even a 1/2 cut in cost. At 100 points all it really is is a MC that adds Warp Charges for Hive Tyrants or maybe a Tervigon to munch on. And for the same cost we can get two broods of zoanthropes that would add more.

as I made the toxicrine with the kit (worst kit we have in terms of rules/ points/ stats for BOTH models) I never bothered reading the Maceptor rules in depth, but upon reading them now it just sounds like a more expensive version of the nerothropes leach life (that can be cast 3 times and effect vehicles, but does NOT give additional warp charges for warp lance) whats more he costs 30 points MORE than a squad with a nerothrope, produces 4 less warp charges and even if he gets warp lance only fires 1 shot (unlike 3 for the nerothropes "brotherhood of phykers"). yes hes an MC but his warp field has been decreased by 2 (from the zoanthrope) and he has 1 wound less than the whole squad (even if he can not suffer instant death... T6)

As I said, GW screwed us over with this kit.... neither the Maceptor OR the Toxicrine are worth the £44 we paid for 1 model, I don't know about the rest of you but it feels like they are pissing on us without the decency to call it rain (sorry for the language) the other races get nice new rules, and to keep us from complaining they gave us new models, with the only decent ones being our good old drop pod and mucolid spore (which unless you make yourself, as I did, you need to pay £44 for one and can not make the drop pod after... well you can but not properly, although now I think about it, a drop pod on the ground would provide a lot more cover for our forces, as to being on those tenticles, may make a thread on that)
