Rules Clarification: Screamer-Killer

Hi all,

I've got an apoc game coming up and I was wondering if someone could clarify something about the Carnifex Crusher Brood formation, in particular the "Screamer-Killer" rule. I'm aware that the Apoc book pre-dates Carnifex broods which is probably why I'm a bit confused. The "Screamer-Killer" rule provides a S4+X AP2 Hellfire template, where X is the number of Carnifex taking part in the attack.

Q1. S4+X to me would imply that if one Carnifex is taking part, this attack is S5? This would mean 6 Carnifex are needed to make it a S10 attack?
Q2. Can I do this attack twice by having 3 Carnifex perform one attack, then another 3 perform another? (this is the question I really need an answer to as it will vary how I set up my formations)

I'm planning on taking 18 Fexes and I'm hoping for 6 S7 AP2 Hellfire Templates or 3 S10's if I come up against an armored division.

q1: yes, that's how it works.
q2: you'd have to buy the formation twice to do this.

Sorry for querying this, for Q2, If I had 6 Carnifex in the formation, the Carnifex could either all join in for the Hellfire template (S10), or half could Hellfire and the others shoot as normal, but not 2 Hellfire templates? That makes sense I suppose since it's an old formation. I guess I'll have to choose between the S7 and S10 templates then.

The rule clearly says that the formation can only make a single shooting attack with the given profile, which means you'll only ever get one Hellstorm attack per formation. Interestingly, it doesn't specifically prevent you from shooting all your standard Bio-plasma attacks in addition to the template, providing they're in range of the same target. Don't expect to be too popular if you argue this in a game, but the rules don't do anything to prevent using both even though common sense would dictate otherwise.

I thought there was part of the rule about can do this "instead of" but obviously I don't know hence why I'm asking questions about it. Definitely not trying to do something as cheap as that, I was just hoping that you could choose between the S7 and S10 profile.

I'm going to have a chat to the guy running it to see if he's happy make an allowance for the Nid players, allowing two broods to forgo a template to boost it to the S10 version. If not, I'll likely take them as 3 Carnifex a formation for the 6 Hellfire templates, or possibly run a 6 fex foramtion through the middle for a S10 and flank it with 2 x 3 Fex formations on each side.
