How to paint invisible models (Deathleaper)

Hello Hive, looking for some help on the matter of painting Deathleaper invisible, or cloaked, like this:


The image is from a model site that used to sell stealth models like this, but apparently don`t sell them anymore. But either way I wondered if there was any way to paint this effect, since I have my Deathleaper primed and ready.

That is exactly what I'm doing with my deathleaper.
It's a recast in clear resin that's painted halfway up.

If that's beyond you and you can only paint I don't think it's really possible. The best painted effect Iv seen is the blend parts of it into a background- for example I saw a lictor stood against a grey stone column (on his base) and half painted in the same grey as the column

Can't help on where to find them (what a cool idea) Not sure exactly how you'd simulate a translucent look. Off the top of my head I'm thinking bright base of white, greys and maybe blues, then perhaps I'd be trying maybe varnishes tinted with clear inks to give the illusion of internal depth.
Just speculation on my part. Beyond my skills to expect I could pull the trick off. :-)

Kyokii: Where did you buy that? That would obviously be the easiest way.

fnorril: Yeah I`ve seen those too, really cool as well. That`s kinda my backup plan in case this idea is a no go

Remalis: That sounds like a good start, I`ll test it out with some sprues leftovers. That`s half the fun though, experimenting with different colours

Oh, no, the model isn't mine in the picture, i'm just doing the same thing.
You have to make a mold and recase the parts you want invisible with a clear resin yourself, I doubt you can go and find one of these online. Google might have an answer for that, ya never know these days.

Oh, so you made your own miniature then? How, lol? xD

Either way, I've started testing out colours. It's gonna take time, and I think I need to get some new paint for this.

This is my plan when I get around to it too, using a clear resin like Kyokii. If you go that route, keep in mind you'll need to pose it before you cast it should you take it the extra step further. Greenstuff isn't translucent.

As a matter of preference, I would have been sure to paint the face as it's a huge point of interest on the model. It's unfortunate that it's skipped on the model above.

You could maybe do something interesting with spraying from a direction. Paint it up, then Spray it from 3 o clock with a dark brown one quick burst. Then a quick burst from 1:30 with a dark green.

Yeah, that looks cool, I`ll look more into it. But it`s not that big a deal for my part My sorry ass is in Norway too, and ordering something from the states will take a long time and a small fortune in customs

Then again, maybe I could use silicone for the mould. That would be much easier. But where do I get clear resin or plastic around here? Hmm...

Two part clear epoxy glue might do the trick. (Araldyte is what it's called here, not sure if that's a universal name though) it's cheap and easy to find.
The trick will then be lining the mould with a separater agent (silicon grease or something) that doesn't mix or bind with the glue. That will be the harder issue.

Well, THAT'S good fun! I think I would have painted the other way though, with the legs clear, as the head parts are far more interesting.
