Is the wraith knight a JGC?

So I heard about the new eldar codex. So the wraith knight is going to be LoW, plus it's going to b a JGC (jump gargantuan creature)? Plus some of their range weaponry has a D weapon status. So if that's the case how do we deal with those?

same way we did before, only it's less effective (tarpit is hard to do with stomps. poison only wounds on a 6. shrikes will do a number on them if you send 6+, but it's expensive and they'll draw fire. they also have 5+ FNP natively as a GMC now.). you'll also likely only be seeing one as it's a LoW and most places will probably restricting them to 1 per army, if they're allowed at all, and many places have a ban on ranged S:D weapons as well.

if your area is anything goes though, well, i feel bad for you son.

Thanks giganail. Yeah they will be definitely hard though we usually limit it to one LoW with no restrictions in our games here.

How would the wraith knight compare to the LoW's the eldar have access to. Other than it's cheaper by far.

Picked up a copy (Eldar is one of my 3 armies) but haven't bothered opening it up yet. I barely played with them their last codex (maybe 8 games?) because it was so boring. I'm torn between running all my aspect warriors which seem viable now, or just forgetting them because they got a buff they didn't need.

I don't know that shrikes are really the answer to these things. You need 5 Lw/Bs shrikes with all their toys to kill one on the charge, and that's 505 points to kill 295...assuming no ID on overwatch or dying on the way to it. Massed gargoyles is probably our best bet here, stomps be damned. That, or several small/mid sized gaunts squads that charge in one at a time and "feed" the tarpit.

Maybe Dima with 5+ ID for D3 wounds instead of 1 on the charge? On 2nd thought the Grasping Talons may be better....either way it's doing a lot of damage, but probably not killing it.

speed bumping them is somewhat difficult due to stomps being able to hit outside of combat but the size of its base means you can probably do it w/o too much difficulty. what will make this difficult isn't just the WK, it's the massed firepower from the rest of the list clearing out key units first, then gribblies.

and you can safely do the FMC blocker move, the WK doesn't have skyfire so its blasts from stomp shouldn't be hitting them.

Sickle claws are ID on a 4+... so even sexier...
Grasping Talons can only Spine Maw infantry (or where were you going with GTs?)

ID is an interesting approach... maybe it's time to rethink Hypertoxic as well...

The Dima is only S7 on the charge and S6 normally with the Sickle Claws so 5+ then 6+ to ID.

Still better than the Grasping attack though since it'll cut through FnP and do multiple wounds rather than just wounding slightly easier.

Realistically though this is a really tough match up for us. You're best bet is really GC shooting and even that takes either 2 turns or a little help from a nearby Warplance or similar.

How is it a 6+ for Instant Death. I just re-read the rule and it says on a 4+ To Wound causes Instant Death. I think the Dima is one of few ways to combat a Wrathknight. The 4+ does not change based on the Strength to Toughness ratio.

Still you get nearly 2 Dimebags for the price of a WK... there may be something there...

Dima on the charge is S8 his talons give +1S and adrenal glands gives him furious charge which gives him +1S. His base strength is 6. Also how big is a GC extremely bulky in which case Dima will get his rampage attacks as well. So if Dima were to catch a wraith knight it could easily kill it in one turn. The question here is If...

Chances are you would have to double team it with a Flyrant that got paroxysm and ur LoW with Dima to make it be able to kill it in one turn.

According to the rule it causes Instant Death on a roll To Wound of a 4+. The way I see it I don't care what I actually need To Wound, I pick the dice that hit and roll them and any 4s or better are Instant Death no matter what.

But what you guys are saying is that it's only Instant Death on a 4 or better if I need a 4 or better to actually wound. How does the rule than work if I need more than a 4 or better to actually wound? Does the rule then change to on a roll of a 5+? Or on a roll of a 6+? That kind defeats the purpose of stating 4+, I don't know if they would have worded the rule the way they did if that's what they meant.

Dimachaeron moves 6'' and WK 12''. There is extremely difficult to catch faster target in CC in competitive game. Besides WK fire power is dangerous to dimachaeron. No assault grenades either, so WK in cover strikes first. Eldars have access to nasty psychic powers, so WK can be invisible, have 4++ or have rerolls to hit.
