Targeting for the Tyrannocyte weapons

Can anyone clarify how targeting for the Tyrannocyte's weapons works? The guns shoot the closest unit, right? Do they target separate units if there are multiple units in range of specific weapons? If only one unit is within range of their 5 guns, do they fire all 5 at that unit? Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have sent this very question in an email to GW and I was told they may consider this for a FAQ... We will have to wait and see. In the mean time I would just try to use the most simplest of ways to execute this rule until GW clarifies the ambiguity.

RAW: you fire them at all at the closest target to the base of the unit (with the provision you can fire at two or more units if there are a couple equidistant), because there is nothing in their rules that state to deviate otherwise from MC rules.

If your group follows ITC rules/FAQ, then they treat them just like vehicle hull mounted weapons with LoS and range drawn from each weapon.

You will find this to be an absolute mess, personally I take the rules as written, my best advise is talk it over with your opponent before the game starts because I find confusion runs rapid due to the terrible writing of its rules. It all falls apart because most of what is written was intended to be taken as intended. imo

This is what I fear and why I have put off buying 5 more Tcytes. The fear of GW changing it's rules and going hull mounted vehicle weapons. I have a competitive pod list with 8 Tcytes. 8 Tcytes put out 120 shots per turn with the rules as they are written. As vehicle weapons, they would put out ~40 shots (on your intended target). And make it very hard to focus down enemy units.

That right there is the significant difference that makes it not worth having more than one Tcyte. You hear that GW? Don't touch 360 LOS and you'll sell a lot more Tcytes. Put it in a FAQ.

Ok, good to know. I think its a conversation piece. I imagine most of the time the MC targeting rules will settle matters, but working out the scenarios ahead of time with an opponent seems smart.

Even RAW they fire at the end of the shooting phase and each weapon fires independently and can be at different targets, so right there it's breaking the 40K rules of each units same weapon firing at the same time. I bought 3 kits and other than one or three funsy games, I haven't used them at all. Mucolids, on the other hand are in every list. Until this mess is sorted out, I regret my decision to purchase the darn things b/c the rules are such a mess.

I figure Sporocyst shooting is straight-forward. I measure from the gun-tips to the closest units. So I've learned to make sure three are facing the enemy and two are facing my backfield.

again, taken with the other rules for MC shooting, all this does is enable you to fire at different targets if there are some that are equidistant. there's no reason to complicate this further.

I don't get why you US players haven't given Adepticon and LVO a harder time regarding this idiotic vehicle ruling? I assume it's because no one has planned to do pod spam. Yet.

I agree. That ITC ruling is too harsh. Even if you use the White Dwarf fluff interpretation, you can bring 3 or 4 guns to bear on one target. Saying that it's a vehicle is even more controversial than White Dwarf RAI.

i think that's pretty much the case. you and i tried to talk to him on the comments section on that one FL article and he was like 'well this is what we think RAI was /endofstory' which was really kind of weird. reece seems to like to talk.

Yeah, I guess you need either some name, or a critical mass of players with complaints.

Either way, with a Comms Relay I think pod spam builds can be real contenders. Just needs a good player on your side of the pond to pick up the torch.
