Just finished this guy, its my first real attempt painting my Tyranid models. The picture was taken with a camera phone at around 9 p.m. with only a desk lamp on so hes being a little camera shy. Took me about 13 hours (Although I had to take a break for about 4 of those hours to go to the DMV).
Primed in white, then 2 coats of Seraphim Sepia on all exposed skin, first coat to give them a nice light brown colorization, second coat was a bit heavier to darken up the crevices.
All carapace got a layer of Abaddon Black then a light drybrush of White Scar on the edge of each plate, then a layer of Xereus purple was drybrushed over the white.
Talons, teeth, spikey bits, and the tail spike were done with Ushabti Bone.
Inside of mouth, gum line by teeth and small depressed bits inside the arms and mandable were done with a Carroburg Crimson wash.
Toxin Spike poison sacs were done with Castellan Green, then very thin watery layer of white scar, and finally covered with some Warboss Green.
The dried blood on the Scything Talons and the Tailspike was done by mixing Wazdakka Red with some Caligraphy Ink (1 drop from an eye dropper is more than enough) and water, mixed then applied with a toothbrush for some random splattering effect.
The base was covered with some Medium Grade Iron Ore made for model railroading, then some pieces of cherry wood ground cover chips from my planters in the backyard and a couple pieces of fire rock from a firebowl I bought at Lowes for our BBQ area.
I liked the leviathan paint scheme but wanted more of a browning leathery hide for the skin as opposed to the white the leviathan hive fleet uses. I tried Agrax Earthshade on a few gaunts before settling on Seraphim Sepia, the Agrax was to dark and flat for my taste.
All thoughts, advice, and Constructive Criticism is welcome, looking for tips on making my army look awesome on the tabletop.
(Edit: Eyes are also Wazdakka Red)
