To pod the Hierophant... or not to pod the Hierophant

So we finally have pods again! And coming from my old null deploy lists I have a ton of old pods. With the new rules showing they can carry MCs and GCs acting as MCs for all intents and purposes.... Let's pod a Hierophant!

I always found the first few turns when using my LOW kind of annoying as I slowly walked forward, shooting what I wanted while being bombed on the way. In that time I could be tarpitted when I finally made it to close combat anyways?! Podding in where I want means not worrying about being tarpitted and charging on turn 3 exactly where I want rather than being dictated by my opponent!

Think it's worth podding a hierophant? 36" move + charge would hit wherever I want anyways methinks.

Can you get it within 6"?

If you can't then it's a clear case of modeling for an advantage.

I don't think it's ever a good idea to pod one of our GCs.

whole model has to be within 6" of your pod. how big is that base? it works with heirdyules becaues they're on a 5" base.

i don't think it's a good idea; the GC's are our only effective long range shooting platform. you're giving up a round of shooting (at least) doing this.

i might pod a scythed heirodyule. point blank hellstorm, as its not likely to be finding good targets turn 1 anyway.

Lose a ton of awesome S10 shooting but come on! That big thing popping out of a pod! Can you imagine those guardsmen?!

For something normally carrying 200-300 points worth of models, 1000 points popping out would be silly ^_^

I dont either. If it were me id rather be pumping out shots from the word go.

If for some reason I thought id need to, I think a hierodule would be the only one that would work rules wise (5" base on them right?) But it would habe to be a scythed (not likely) and would only be o f I couldn't get hom in range of something to flame by turn 2 (also not likely).

For instance on the far corners deployment against some kind of turdy artillery heavy army packed in some ruins or something I might consider it if I brought scythed over barbed.

Hierophant, nah man I couldnt justify that its too big.

You're in for quite a fight if you try, but the rules state that GCs are MCs with additional rules.

^this. it is 1) probably not a great idea, except for maybe the scythed heiroduyle and 2) liable to piss folks right the hell off. though i guess it's no worse than infiltrating them with MoA.

*edit* Going to regret this, should keep my mouth shut but here I go. The rules say no, you can't drop pod a Gargantuan Creature. Our pods (forget what they are called) can transport 20 gaunts or 1 MC. There is no reference that it can transport GC. Yes GC=MC but the pod can't transport MC because it doesn't say they can. Simple as that.

If you can prove otherwise than the GC=MC just no. Please for heaven sakes we don't need another 27+page thread arguing about how a rule should work.

The Tyranid Hive is getting a bad name now because of how members are interpreting the rules. We don't need another one now. For the Hive sakes, please stop.

GC are MC. with more rules. it's in the book, and it's very clear, and we've already been over it.

I'm late to this party (been lurking and not contributing for a few months) and even to me it's clear. "GC are MC that have additional rules and exceptions given below" pretty clear to me.

And it's funny. Not optimal, but funny. Which is the whole point of this thread. To toss something crazy out there and make someone go, "What the..." ^_^

I think podding a Scythed Heirodule has valid tactics behind it. Barbed, though? I'd rather have the shots from T1, personally.

Heirophant, though? I would never try to say that it could fit in the pod. As mentioned, the model (the real one, that is) can't fit inside the required 6" bubble - and without pulling up the 'cyte rules, I think it says something about "any that can't be placed are destroyed". So that's an auto-dead 1k-ish points.

I mean, if your opponents are cool with you plunking down a guardsman as a proxy Heirophant, then sure, you can fit it within the required area. Else? Less so.

Depends if you have the hierophant on a huge base, or like the player at my LGS just pinned the legs and has no base. Without a base it can just be placed over the pod! The 10"x10" span would fit straddling it! Just place it over the pod! I mean hierophants just walk over everything anyways... right?

Edit: Add in the biomorph where it is a transport and suddenly it's carrying 20 gribblies inside too!
