I like genestealers and small clusters of spore mines. Its always kind of funny the way those models repel enemies triggering predictable moves away. About half of my lists have both in them where they fit.

Does anyone else use less than competitive units often?

Absolutely, back in 4th Ed, someone at my shop ran an entire genestealer/Broodlord army. Looked to much fun not to play.

Current favorite: used to be hormagaunts.. Till the game that they got completely annihilated before even one made it to combat. But now would be lictors, I love their look and the concept of being an invisible assassin.
