So I played in 2 of the 3 Tournaments I meant to play in, one with the nids and one with my Eldar. The first day I ran my Tyranids, and upon showing up the TO said there was some confusion over the points value (Current rules on the website said 1,500), and so some people only brought 1,000 points. He said that if your opponent had a 1,500 point list as well, you could both agree to play the larger of the two lists.
Some dude with an Adepticon T-shirt is running the event and using their form of missions / scoring.
I took some quick notes of what happened in each turn of each game. As anyone who's played in timed tournaments, you know you don't have a lot of time to do much. I took some pictures of the games, but am having a hard time finding them since I have a few hundred pictures of all the stuff going on at the Con
My 1,500 point list;
HQ (455 Points)
Hive Tyrant (Wings, Old Adversary, Scything Talons, Lash Whip / Bonesword, Electroshock Grubs, Adrenal Glands)
Tervigon
Elites (295 Points)
Malanthrope
Venomthrope
3x Hive Guard
Troops (100 points)
10x Hormagaunts
10x Hormagaunts
Fast Attack (270 Points)
5x Shrikes, Toxic Sacs, Adrenal Glands, Flesh Hooks, 3x Rending Claws, Barbed Strangler, 2x Lash Whips / Bonesword
Heavy Support (380 Points)
2x Biovores
Stone Crusher Carnifex
Stone Crusher Carnifex
And the 1,000 I had to emergency trim down:
HQ
Hive Tyrant (Wings, Old Adversary, Scything Talons, Lash Whip / Bonesword, Adrenal Glands)
Tervigon
Elites
Malanthrope
3x Hive Guard
Troops
12x Hormagaunts
11x Hormagaunts
Heavy Support
Biovores
Stone Crusher Carnifex
Game 1 (1,500) Tau
6 Objectives, placed in the center of each game Quadrant. Kill points are also in, as well as FB/WL/LB.
Terrain (for all boards) were 4+ ruins in the 4 corner quadrants, small woods area terrain in the center 2 quadrants, a small-ish LoS piece in the center of the board with a hills flanking it on either side.
My opponent had a Tau gunline; 1 Unit of Kroot, 2 units of FireWarriors, 2x Broadside units with Rail Rilfes and missile drones/missiles on the shoulders, pathfinders, some HQ that joined the pathfinders, Hammerhead with Railgun and a riptide.
Dawn of war Deployment, and my opponent spread himself pretty evenly. Pathfinders w/HQ in the center woods piece, kroot/fire warriors mixed in the buildings. Hammerhead on (my) far left, riptide in the center. Broadside units each flank the pathfinder squad.
I put my Tervigon, shrikes, a Stonecrusher and the Venomthrope on my right side ruins with the Biovores LoS behind the wall. A unit of Hormagaunts screen in front of them. The left side has my Malanthrope, Hive Tyrant, a unit of horms, the other stonecrusher and the Hive Guard.
Turn1; Night fighting, he went first. Nothing really happened here, lost a few Hormagaunts. Everything had a 2+ cover save from ruins/shrouded/stealth. He marked up my Tervigon and managed to do 3 wounds.
I move out of my bunkers and surge forward. The Stonecrusher on the left really miffed his MTC role as well as his run, moving a grand total of 3 inches.
Turn2; He moves his firewarriors on the left side up to the lip of the ruins for better firing position, and I'm assuming for rapid fire on the following turn. SMS wounds my Hive Tyrant once, who is pretty exposed but has that sweet 2+ jink from the malanthrope who's keeping up nicely with his fleet run. He throws a lot of fire into the HT and doesn't do anything besides the SMS.
Hive Tyrant makes assault against the firewarriors, but takes 2 wounds on overwatch. He mulches them and captures the objective in the building, using a wall to LoS from the riptides.
Turn3; He kills a unit of horms, kills 2 of my 3 shrikes with broadside fire / marker lights to take their cover away. He apparently hasn't played Nids much, and said "I should probably kill the things giving you cover saves" and manages to kill my venomthrope.
My hive Tyrant jumps out of the ruins and wipes out the broadside unit on the left, Hive Guard finish off the Hammerhead. My shrikes assault the Riptide. The overwatch from him and his buddies kill 2 of them and leave 1 wound remaining on the last one. I make a 11 inch charge with him, whiff on the attacks/wounds, and one of the drones boops him on the head and he dies. Stonecrusher on the right hits the firewarriors on the right building and make short work of them. Biovores kill all pathfinders and wound his Warlord. Stonecrusher on the left turns around and steps back to take my back left objective. Tervigon spawns take my center objective.
We hit time, and I get a 13-3 Victory.
Game 2 (1,000) Dark Eldar
Hammer and Anvil. Terrain is the same on all boards.
Opponent has 3 venoms, 3 of the larger transports. MSU inside with Lances/Poison. Warlord is something really good in h2h (Archon?) attached to some big monster guys (Grotesques?) and is one of the Transports. He gets the Stealth in Ruins WL trait and puts all of his transports in the ruins on his side of the board. 2 venoms and 1 transport on my close side, 2 transports and 1 venom on my far table side with the Warlord transport up front.
I place the biovore on my close side, along with the tervigon in the ruins and a unit of gaunts. On my far side I have a unit of screening gaunts, the Fex, HT, and the Hive Guard.
Turn 1; Night Fight. He unloads on my Hive Tyrant and the Malanthrope. Hive tyrant fails 2 of his 3 jink saves of 2+ and the Malanthrope takes a single wound.
I move my far side units up the board, Hive Guard get a pen hit and blow up a Lance on his Warlords Transport.
Turn 2; He moves his damaged transport down deeper into the ruins trying to LoS it and deploys his Warlord H2H unit, about 6 inches from my HT. I taunt his Warlord (The Hive mind reaches into your Archons mind, showing him imminent doom from one of it's most perfect creations) in an attempt to keep it form getting poison / lance spammed to death. It works. He kills the malanthrope for firstblood and fails his 6 inch charge. Apparently he has a 2+ poison weapon with Instant Death and a shadowfield and he wasn't scared of my half dead Tyrant.
My close side units do not much of anything, hoping the Hive Guard can pop a transport and give the biovore something to do besides trying to strip hullpoints on a roll of 6. Hive guard do a hullpoint but kill nothing. My Hive Tyrant and Hormagaunts charge his Warlord's unit, and HT challenges. He fails his shadowfield save from my HoW and his Warlord gets ID'd. I laugh really hard and then apologize. My opponent says my HT can't do his normal attacks and calls the TO over, who said my HT makes his attacks still. Grotesques die leaving my Warlord very exposed.
Turn 3; He kills my Warlord, the Hormagaunts, and moves out of range of Hive Guard.
Fex makes IB test and moves towards his board, trying to get a luck charge against his transports. Hive guard move back towards cover in the center of the field, hoping to have a threat bubble for the most amount of objecctives possible.
Turn 4; He Kills the Stonecrusher and the Hive guard.
I start to move out from my close board side bunker for objective grabbing. Tervigon was spawning like a champ since turn 2 and I set myself up for some potentionally game winning moves if all the stars align, but they don't.
10-6 loss.
Game 3 (1,000) Dark Angels
3 Tactical Squads (2 with Lascannons, 1 with melta), Dev squad (10 strong) with 4 Heavy Plasma, 5 Scouts, Razorback(Heavy bolter), and Azrael.
Vanguard Strike deployment.
He deploys heavy on the right side of the board with a tact squad, the scouts, rhino with a tact squad in it w/ Azrael, and the Razorback. Devs and a tact Squad go in the ruins in the top-right quadrant.
I Deploy rather evenly, with my HT, Hive Guard, malanthrope, and a unit of horms on the left. Tervigon goes center with the Biovore and the Stonecrusher and other horms on the left of that.
Turn 1; Night Fight. I move my HT and HG towards the forces on his right. I manage to get Paroxysm off on the tact squad not in the Rhino, giving it -3. Hive guard kill two marines in that same squad, as they didn't have range on the rhino or razorback. Tervigon spawns with a 6,5,4 roll.
Azrael and his marines get out of the rhino and within rapid fire range of the Hormagants. He nearly wipes out of unit of hormagaunts on my right side with the squad, and he does a wound to the malanthrope with heavy plasma fire.
Turn 2; Stonecrusher / Horms continue to move towards his backfield bunker. Tervigon spawns like a champ again (which he'll do all game) and starts flooding the board with gants to grab objectives. The remaining hormagaunts assault Azraels unit to soak overwatch, they all die granting first blood. Hive Tyrant attempts to assault the unit with Azrael in it, and fails a 6" charge, despite having Fleet.
Enemy heavy Plasma fire kills the Malanthrope and a squad of gants. Everything on the right side of the board fires into the HT, dealing 2 wounds. Azrael charges with his tact squad, and he kills my HT for Slay the Warlord.
Turn 3; I try to lock up units with charges to keep him from going to objectives as we're close to time. I fail all of them.
He kills my Hive Guard.
I thought I had won by 1 victory point, but we draw 9-9.
I was unaware that in Vanguard strike, the entire board edge is considered for Linebreaker, not just the board edge that was in my deployment zone. A razorback that infiltrated with the scouts sat in linebreaker all game in I had no idea.
Game 4 (1,500) Taudar. Well, Eldau? I don't know, just look at the list.
2x Wraithknights. One with sun canon and the other stock. Riptide, 2 squads of guardians with Scatter Lasers, 12 fire warriors and some hq with them that had a marker light, 10x Wraithblades with axes/shields and a Spirit Seer as Warlord.
Dawn of War Deployment.
Puts a unit of Guardians with their support weapon in each of the ruins. Fire warriors go in the woods in the middle, Wraithblades pushed right up against his deployment wagging their rears at me, Spirit Seer in the unit. Sun canon WK on my left, the other on my right. Riptide in the middle, in front of the fire warriors.
I put both Stone Crushers right up the middle, followed by the Hive Guard. Tervigon/biovores/venom go on my right side ruins. HT / Shrikes start in the left ruins, malanthrope nearby, and screening horms in front of them.
This game had a neat mechanic where you rolled a D3 for your side and a D3 for your opponents side. These were the 2 "Scoring" objectives for your turn. If you controlled them at the end of your turn, you got a VP for each.
Turn 1; He moves up Wraithblades and runs. He has some pretty ineffective fire as I had 2+ cover for most of my army round 1. Riptide and Wraight knights move forward. Riptide wounded itself with an overcharge.
Surge forward. Hive Tyrant assaults and IDs the Suncanon Wraith Knight. A stone crusher and shrikes hit the Wraithblades, killing 6 of them and his Warlord. Tervigon Corks with a 4-1-1 roll.
Turn 2; He focuses down my Hive Tyrant. I kill all but 1 Wraithblades. He loses a wound on his Riptide due to overcharge.
I kill a bunch of fire warriors with biovores, finish off the wraithblade.
Turn 3; His remaining Wraithknight jumps on top of the center terrain. He kills the shrikes and almost all my hormagants.
I position my stonecrushers so that I can charge the Wraight knight on the hill, or the unit of Guardians in ruins on my left. I decide to go 1 each (failing to make the charge into the guardians with my stonecrusher), and my remaining hormagaunts jump on the guardians. We slapfight. Stonecrusher does 3 wounds with HoW and then takes 2 from the Wraightknight, then I do 2 wounds back leaving him with 1 left. Hive Guard do 1 wound to the riptide.
Turn 4; Wraithknight kills the stonecrusher. He fires into my Tervigon leaving it with 1 wound left. Concentrated fire kills the Stonecrusher that failed his charge. Slapfight with guardians/horms continues.
Hive guard move forward, shooting at the firewarriors, trying to get them to run off the board. Biovores do the same to the guardians on the right side ruins. They both pass morale. Slapfight with guardians/horms continues.
Turn 5; Wraith knight kills the tervigon, backlash kills almost all the gants. Slapfight with guardians/horms continues.
I charge the Wraighknight with my Malanthrope, hoping to finish it off, as it's now doing havoc with what units I have left, which are all in my backfield. I know he'll be getting too many VPs if he's getting his own and mine every turn. It does work, he kills my Malanthrope and I'm now left with no Synapse. Hormagaunts win slapfight, and are now in his ruins on my left side, sitting on his objective. Hive guard start moving up the center to try and finish off the firewarriors.
Turn 6; Wraightknight kills my venomthrope. Scatter laser wounds a biovore. Ripetides fire into the Hormagants. They g2g in the ruins, lose enough to force moral, and they break. Fire Warriors (3 alive) and the Tau HQ fire into hive Guard, killing all but 1 who has 1 wound left. The HQ split fired and killed 1 of my 3 hormagants.
Hormagants rally (wooooo!) and re-grab the objective in the ruins (woo! 2 VPs this turn1), Hive Guard fail IB and g2g. Biovores finish off the other guardian squad. Gants fail IB and run.
Turn 7.
Riptide kills the termagants. Wraighknight kills the biovores. Tau HQ model split fires with rapid fire and kills the 2 hormagaunts. Fire warriors fail to kill the Hive Guard with 1 wound left (my last model on the board) and charge it. He punches 2 of them to death and doesn't die. I forget what weapons the warriors had that let him fire and charge. Maybe they were carbines, maybe they were the standard gun, I don't remember. This game was intense and I didn't even think about rapid fire weapons and charging.
Game ends, we draw at 9-9 points.
I end the Tournament in 4th with 37 points. The Eldau from Game 4 and the Dark Eldar from Game 2 tied with 40 points. Apparently they had played each other and the Eldau beat the DE, so Eldau won the tie. Some marine army took 3rd.
I feel like the decision to not put both Stonecrushers into the Wraighknight in game 4 really cost me that game, and probably the tournament. That 1 wound left wraightknight just went to town on me in my backfield, and if it hadn't, I'm pretty sure I would've had that game and more VPs per the scoring mechanic of that game.
Also the ignorance of Linebreaker in game 3 didn't help with my W/L ratio, ending at 1-1-2. Luckily winners were determined by points, not W/L record, and I didn't tie at 37 with anyone else so WL didn't matter for me.
All and all I was really happy with how my bugs did, and had a great time. I'll probably go to the Indycon open that the TO was pimping and try my luck there too with this list; articles.indygamerz.com/wargamerz/indywarcon/
Side note; My favorite line from the tourney was the TO saying "We have people here from across the country. Places like Boston *points at someone* and...other places! *Sweeps arm generically*" during the opening of the tourney.
Some dude with an Adepticon T-shirt is running the event and using their form of missions / scoring.

Side note; My favorite line from the tourney was the TO saying "We have people here from across the country. Places like Boston *points at someone* and...other places! *Sweeps arm generically*" during the opening of the tourney.
