750 pts (almost) no restrictions. Brainstorming...

Tourney coming up. 750pts no SH or GC allowed. Everything else is open, even unbound. 4x4 board.

I though about running dual endless swarm....

Each game has 3 objectives. (same three, rotating between primary, secondary, tertiary each game)
IIRC, they will be table quarters, BAO style maelstrom, and.... (please do not swear) can't remember.


Dual endless swarm could be fun, 120 gaunts, all returning on a 4+. Of course, only 2 warrior broods for synapse

Could also go 3 flyrants/egrubs. But may have a problem scoring maelstrom objectives. (or 2 flyrants, 1 egrubs, 2 harpies with HVC. 4 FMC... but still a problem with maelstrom objectives.)

6 vanilla fexes, even if they fail IB, they want to charge anyway.

3 tervigons, CCLaws

100 spore mines, and 5 broods of DSing rippers

3 dimathingys and a malanthrope; or 2 CC flyrants, dimathingy, malanthrope/venomthrope




What do you guys think? Any of these sound viable? Improvements? Other ideas??

Well, somehow I blew 2 weeks and didn't come up with anything... and the tourney is tonight. (yay for procrastinating)

So there will be 3 games, each game will have the *same* 3 mission; they will rotate between being primary, secondary, and tertiary for each game.
Modified maelstrom (similar to BAO), objectives, and table quarters;

Because of this, I am concerned about taking lots of FMCs..... But they are our best units.

I really like the 3 terv list, except I am not sure it can kill anything, but should be pretty good at the missions.

Oh, there is a rule for the tourney (oddly enough, one I suggested) Fully painted units have Preferred Enemy (non-fully painted units). Which is cool, except I think I only have 1 fully painted Terv....


Well... thoughts? Suggestions? Improvements?

I was immediately drawn to the 3 tervigon list as well. That is a ton of spawning on pretty durable platforms for a 750 pt game. You have AG and CC for any nasty vehicles you might come across.

How many gants do you have painted?

I'd probably go with the 2 Tyrant and 2 Harpies. I'd probably drop one egrub and replace it with 2 HVC on the harpies.

Nameless, what do you think about the missions? It will require me to kill most of my enemy so I can safely land to control objectives.

Good point. I didn't really consider that table quarters would also require landing but I guess that's they way they'd play it ("It can't score in the air").

That being said, you could get by with selective landing and judging the likelihood of survival upon landing for the one game of primary modified malestrom objectives (even with that, BAO has usually 2 of the 6 as killing a unit). With secondary and tertiary, you can probably wing it (haha) and go for the other two, landing on T5 and jinking all the way.

Normally, I'd be recommending putting your objectives in the centre of the table, but you want him to spread out as much as possible, so put them both in opposite corners which will also keep you away from him and hopefully score both quads and objs. Your game needs to have a super tight movement phase where you can plan out where you're going to be on every turn. I actually think the objectives help (although kill points would be even better).

Also, the other option with flier is to take a crone and standard harpy but no egrubs. May be a stretch for Anti-tank, but realistically, you're not going to kill a tank with those Terv lists until T4-5.

I'm assuming you've got all of these 4 fliers painted.



There are two schools of thought to this. The second is board control flood which your 3 tervigons gives you. I'd take the gargoyles and use them to screen. Leave one Terv back (i.e. not past centre), on the centre line of the two side, spawning on either side. These are primarily for quarters. The other two run forward and hole just past the centre line. Depending on how smart your opponent is, their second objective will likely be placed on their opposite site of their table. Yours should be up front as possible, trying to block his opposite side objective placement (usually there will be an obvious place someone will start castled up. Then it's just a game of screened gants and centre board control.



I think they can both be effective. The Tervs probably take less thinking and are more forgiving of mistakes.

Damn... didn't think I could fit a crone with the flyrants and harpies.... definitely worth dropping the egrubs for a crone.

Do I need AG on the tervs? I could use those 45pts for a venomthrope, or buy another gun instead, or....

I like the Tervs for the missions, but they do *nothing* against flyers, and have minimal killing power otherwise. So my 750pts can spawn into a 1000+pt army; but is that enough to compensate for such lousy killing ability?

If your tactic is to sit in the centre of the board and wait it out so to speak, you probably don't need AG. The Venom would help a lot more. This really isn't my prefered playing method, but it could work.

Most aren't taking fliers with lots of anti-infantry, so even if they just sit back and hover, you don't care too much about 3 lascannons (assuming with venom saves). He's got to come to you eventually if you've placed the objectives correctly, you may get off a chain assault to reach a hovering flier. I don't know. Not exactly an easy question. The battle of attrition.
