Day 2 Game 5
Vs drop pod space Marines
I'll admit I was quite deflated after having my win become a loss and I was no longer on the top of my game. (The 5 hours of sleep and 10k hike in the morning may have done it too. The things we do for our hobbies.)
He wins the roll off and gives me first turn. Surprise there's nothing on the table for me to shoot so I run everyone to ruins. His turn he drop pods half his army including tiggy with Sternguard and a crazy named chapter master with plasma bolter power fists (umm sure?). 2 plasma squads and a flamer squad. At the end of all the shooting I had a suffered 8 out of 9 wounds to both my biovore and my shrike squads. My turn I wipe the 2 plasma and most of the stern guard getting 1st blood. (He combat squads every unit btw) his turn 2 he does the last wound to both the biovore and the shrike. And flames my rippers off a maelstrom objective. With 8 objective secured drop pods and only 4 objectives I didn't get hardly any maelstrom. My dice weren't helping, let's just say 2 tactical Marines assaulted my carnifex. (Lol). But then he does 2 wounds with 2 krak grenades and I failed both saves. And then miss with all 3 attacks. Next round we both whiff. 3rd round he does two more wounds with his 2 Krak missiles and I fail both saves again... dead carnifex before I can swing back. Well I didn't see that coming. On the other side of the field around a single objective at the bottom of 5. my exocrine wipes a tac squad with shooting and a carnifex shoots and assaults the other tac killing them too leaving only the drop pod. Which my last carnifex shoots, glances once, then assaults and does.... Nothing... With 4+D3 strength 9 attacks on Armour 12 I couldn't even get 2 glances. So bottom of 5 he has that one drop pod surrounded by my exocrine and two carnifexes. And the 2 tac Marines on his home objective. I have a flyrant who just killed 1 of his 2 drop pods in a no man's land objective and my other flyrant sitting on the final objective. We roll to continue the game and of course its a 1. He wins primary with 3 objectives to my 1. Had the game gone on I undoubtedly would have tabled him. (3 drop pods and 2 tac Marines against 2 carnifexes an exocrine and 2 flyrants.)
over all, 4 turns to kill 8 drop pods and 16 different tactical squads was too much of a task. Just needed one more turn.
