I've got an idea in my head and wanted some feedback. My local club is doing a long narrative campaign of games over a couple of months, climaxing in a huge weekend long Apocalypse battle in October.
In the campaign battles, players register a pool of 3500 and play 1750pt games. However, units lost in battle cannot be used in their following campaign game(s).
I can't play in the Apocalypse event but will be taking part as a random force against both teams trying to lower their numbers as much as possible, so there is no pressure on me.
Being a narrative gig, where these are advanced forces bumping into each other vying for advantages in the final battle I want to try some fun/fluffy things.
I was thinking of trying to gank troops based artillery or heavy weapons teams who always sit at the back/rear corners. General idea is...
Brood of Warriors, tooled with AG, Devourers and RC pounce from the rear side via Hive Commander, joined with a Prime armed with Miasma/LW/BS. Sure they can't assault immediately but their shooting isn't bad, lots of shots hitting on 3s.
In immediate vicinity, possibly attacking the same unit, Deathleaper's Formation deep strikes in, firing 12 Flesh Hooks.
Lastly, Mr Mawloc bursts out nearby. Tyranids bursting up from every direction!
Basis idea is that everyone lands in the enemy backfield all together, all with some shooting ability and giving the opposing player hopefully too many targets to take out before being assaulted in the following turn. Target saturation would let rest of main force move up.
So, sounds fun to me but has anyone tried similar tactics? Is it doomed to fail or could it genuinely cause problems? Like I said, I don't need to win necessarily, just kill as many entire units as possible so that they're removed from their roster. If you're still reading, cheers!
