Do players in your area find Nids OP

I have been running into this problem frequently...

People seems to think Nids are inherently OP because of two things. Army wide Fearless and MC's that as they say "don't die if penetrated by a single shot"


So my question. How do I make people not fear my Nids?

Run all Gaunts or maybe even Rippers with OOE as your Warlord.

Consider yourself extremely fortunate .

In all seriousness though, ask them how many invul saves they have? Ask them how transports are? Ask them what not requiring synapse to make their models hurt one another?

There are a couple people who insist that nids are very strong and have been as soon as the codex dropped (haven't outright said op though). Kinda baffles me.

To be fair bids can be very overwhelming to the unprepared or more fluffy/soft opponent. It is really only at the competitive level that our book suffers somewhat.

I am locally undefeated since about two-ish weeks after the new book dropped, but I recognize my field is very , very soft though I'm trying to toughen my group up.

yeah, I mean last time I brought a new player into my circle of players(a dark angels player) I took a uber-gimped hyper fluffy "friendly" list. Not a list I would normally run honestly, but I like to play "softer" lists against first time opponents to get a feel for how competitively they play.

The dark angels player stomped me into the ground thoroughly. One of the worst lickings I've taken ever in the game. His list was much more standard competitive just a few tweaks short of being an attempt at a metagame serious list.

I was excited to play him again and show him I'm not a noob(got a victory second game, but not by a huge margin). But that's what it comes down to is the type of lists your opponents bring.

I do feel I've noticed players who aren't familiar with tyranids(especially those not familiar with the new codex) are more likely to consider them broken. Ones that don't have regular tyranid opponents don't have to deal with as much MC spam which is where perceived OP'ness tends to be rooted in imo. As far as armies go we can field an absurd amount of MC's(obviously to fill the lack of vehicles though). I can see where some players felt nids were a little over the top at the end of our 5th ed book's like because of the psychic power spam that lead to T9 Mc's running around haphazardly through the battlefield. But it's unfair to generalize that nids still can do that sort of thing(if they're drawing opinion from 5th ed nids).

I play against the same few guys mostly, and our lists are pretty soft. Though we do know each others armies and models, so we tailor things a bit (before seeing each others lists of course). I don't think they consider Tyranids broken, but there certainly are a few things that can or used to throw the off balance. Namely the Tervigon spawning of additional troops, Synapse nullifying any impact they might make on Morale, Leaderships being only made by Psykers, which we have plenty of and so on. Still, what they don't realize is how squishy a lot of our stuff, the gross overpricing of a few key units, the short range on just about every unit, the nigh complete lack of Invulnerable Saves, the limitation to BRB Powers and so on.

I often face Guard and Orks, both of which will soon be updated to 6th Edition, so from there on we will have to reconsider if Tyranids are build to last or not.

I play in a high traffic area. The local players think nids are op bc they play me often and we play pretty tough list. But the random players that travel threw laugh at nids. I think bc there are alot of Nid players who play fluff list or casual fun list. So it leaves me the pleasure of showing them what nids can actually do!

This reminds me of my first game with a new Grey Knight player. He was pretty confident coming into the game, as he felt he did enough homework to a least have an idea of how his army operates. He won deployment, setup defensively and awaited my deployment. He started sweating after I put down the 6th MC with 3 having wings.

I assured him that it wasn't a problem, because torrent of fire can drop ANYTHING in our codex, because all you need is S3, to have a chance to hurt it. Needless to say my semi-soft list got totally mopped up. I think I ended up killing about half his army, but all I had left at the end was a couple of scoring units and a Tervigon. He was very surprised at how quick it all died, and without focus firing optimally he still managed to remove all the threats.

I would just laugh at my opponent if they called cheese. This codex has slowly started phasing me out of my "all the time NIDS" attitude. I'm not allowed to complain about it, but man did I ever crack up laughing when I read this title. It's like saying Sisters are too good.. At least they have an excuse with a half-wit codex.

Doesn't even need to wound to cause grounding tests, so S is irrelevant. Marker lights will drop your birds.

I think he was referencing the fact that everything in our army can be wounded and potentially killed with S3.

I play in the Austin and San Antonio areas and since the new dex I have lost a few games to SM due to underestimating the power of a DevCent unit, but have drawn twice against a player that regularly wins FLGS tourns with an eldar WS/WK spammy list. Other than that, I've dominated pretty handily. People in my area, including new opponents, still think the nids are severely UP until the end of the game when their friends crowd around the table and question how the game unfolded, acting surprised that most of their units are off the field. Most of these weren't chump lists, either. SM and GK tourn lists, IG lists that had "never lost", Eldar/Tau lists that win FLGS tourns, a DE list (although that was a total wipe), SM lists designed to kill bugs (damned the devcent though), and even a win over an IG player I had never beaten, ever (over the course of 3 years of challenges) that runs a turbo-mech IG list... that win was particularly nice as all he had taken out was a flyrant, total.

It's 40k on hardmode, and I get the feeling that the perspective of tyranids is beginning to change. Unfortunately, going by adepticon results, we've still not found a way to place highly with recognition. Then again I question the strength of the lists that show up to nat'l tourns (two exocrines and a tervigon? I guess...), but what do I know. Maybe I've just gotten very, very lucky with dice rolls.

Honestly, I just tell people to compare monstrous creatures to vehicle armor ratings. If you consider the fact that a T6 creature is the equivalent of an armor 10 model that can still be wounded by S3 too, they really don't seem that overpowered anymore. My group mostly complain about the number of fliers I can take, but some of the players are learning to adapt. It's like nidsinrva said, a lot of the people that gripe about nids are really the people that don't know a lot about our army.

I like the way our army currently plays out. It's a very in-your-face swarmy army. It forces your opponents to make decisions they don't want to, like leaving up an incredibly threatening flyer to deal with our ridiculously strong scoring presence. If people don't react properly to it, or don't prioritize the right targets at the right time, they end up losing. When I imagine how a war against the Tyranid race in the 40k universe would play out, this is very much exactly how I think things would end up going down.

frag grenades. (and all the other cool grenades out there)
Transports (Tervs are 'sort of' a transport, but only for our weakest, unupgraded, unit.
Drop pods
Divination
Allies
'extra' allies (IK, Inquisition, LotD, etc)
Independent Characters
No army-wide debilitating rule forcing them to take sub-optimal choices. (IB)
Long range shooting
Anti-tank shooting
AP3/2/1 shooting
Deathstars
Instant death weapons

and more specifically....
Grav guns
48" move troops
serpent shields
riptides
wraithknights
vendettas
helldrakes
Mindstrike missiles
Force weapons


I am sure I could think of more... but that should at least get them thinking....

You forgot to mention units that can shoot and run away. Nothing in the nid list can kite
